lol.. Really??? that was you?sunny said:Thanks gman
If you ever saw anyone at the physics lawn flying a helicopter looking thing that was me! The project was to use the 4 bladed helicopter to track a moving ground target. You can read a not so brief overview here! The robot was new to CSE and I spent a lot of time doing work to interface with the robot's hardware and software, then spent the rest of my time doing vision stuff to make it see and follow a target.
.
WOW! That is a fantastic mark for Chem 1A. I did Fundamentals last year as well and I got 86 (which I thought was quite good at the time), but your mark completely blows mine out of the water.EdmondDW said:UNSW Assessment Results for Semester 1 2008

I want to kill uni & myself...84 and 74...soooo I have nothing to say....
I should do physics...never boring ecology~
Thanks~ichiraku said:WOW! That is a fantastic mark for Chem 1A. I did Fundamentals last year as well and I got 86 (which I thought was quite good at the time), but your mark completely blows mine out of the water.
I know how you feel getting so close to a HD as well. I got 84 for MICR2011 - Microbiology 1A this semester and was sooo annoyed.
Different schools do it differently. It could be based on WAM, solely on thesis/coursework in honours year, a year-weighted WAM, or any combination of anything really.shoxgeneration said:Hey kids, side-question here.
How exactly do they determine 'first class honours', 'second class', '__ with merit' or whatever they label as at the end of it all? Do they base it on your WAM with cut-offs? And what if you're doing a double degree, is it overall or separated by degree?
People tell me diff things so a bit confused. Thanks!
For a generic 3 year degree with optional Honours year, it is the Honours year mark that determine the class of Honours:shoxgeneration said:Hey kids, side-question here.

Anybody can get 95+...if math, physics maybe possible....but for the other majors?Survivor39 said:For a generic 3 year degree with optional Honours year, it is the Honours year mark that determine the class of Honours:
95+ First Class Honours with University Medal
85+ First Class Honours
75-84 Second Class Honours Division 1
65-74 Second Class Honours Division 2
50-64 Third Class Honours
In 4+ years degrees such as Engineering, Optometry, Law, Honours is determined by the overall WAM, either weighted by the year (1st year 10%, second year 20% etc) or unweighted. These degrees generally award Honours based on this scale:
85+ First class Honours with University Medal
75-84 First class Honours
70-74 Second Class Honours Division 1
65-69 Second Class Honours Division 2
50-64 Award as a Pass degree
I hope this clears things up.
For (engineering at least), the uni medal usually goes to someone if they score alot better than the second best ranking person (or for larger degrees like EE, the top 2 people if their marks rape the rest).Survivor39 said:In 4+ years degrees such as Engineering, Optometry, Law, Honours is determined by the overall WAM, either weighted by the year (1st year 10%, second year 20% etc) or unweighted. Dw, i got my first PC as well.Sonic said:ok i just want to tell everyone that i got my 1st CP
but hey it was a metrics subject and everything else was DN, how does that workout?
obviously someone went to lectures just to sleep
Yes most definitely. I wasn't trying to mislead people by saying that you need X mark to get Y Class. I was just giving a general guide to the award of Honours since "shoxgeneration" asked the question. There was no way I could have given information for every degree as to how Honours is awarded. And I wasn't explaining my answer in the context of Sunny either. So I hope you didn't get offended, Sunny.shannonm said:For (engineering at least), the uni medal usually goes to someone if they score alot better than the second best ranking person (or for larger degrees like EE, the top 2 people if their marks rape the rest).
For mine the person who got the medal had a wam (weighted by year, not the nss wam) of 93.xx, the second ranked person had 87.xx, and the rest not even close (next highest were high 70's).
So only the 93.x person got the uni medal. Had they not existed (or extended their degree for half a year, or whatever..) then the 87.x guy would have got the medal. So it's more relative to your cohort rather than a straight out wam over X = uni medal).
So there's every chance for Sunny to get a medal with a thesis mark of 89 and undergrad (nss) wam of a high 84 in a straight science degree. So GL!
Says ther person who did a basic first year maths course =/EdmondDW said:Anybody can get 95+...if math, physics maybe possible....but for the other majors?
Pay extra money to remark...but the result maybe even lower...what I got from the BABs office~ichiraku said:UNSW Assessment Results for Semester 1 2008

Hey Survivor, don't you tutor Micro 1A? Do you by any chance know what the highest mark for the course was this semester and if there's any chance I can possibly get 1 more mark for it? I did pretty well all throughout the semester (especially in the isolation project and mid session) so I guess either I messed up that final (which I probably did) or Rebecca marked me down for my sauerkraut report.
Unfortunately no one did spectacularly well in the final exam - a relatively large proportion of students failed this year so they may have already scaled up the marks. From what I understand, only a few scored a HD in the short answer questions with the highest mark being in the 80s. I am not sure about the extended responses. Based on that, I'd say you did very well.ichiraku said:Hey Survivor, don't you tutor Micro 1A?
