I remember reading that pretty much 1/4 of all employees leave every year and they are always replaced.

These new positions would probably be stores expanding and new stores opening.

And yes grocery is the best department, perishables is in the same boat also.
With customer service being the worst

Im actually thinking of applying for a job at woolies wince there is one within 5 min walking distance of my house which would b pretty convenient - and if they can offer more shifts than coles is offering (and coles is pretty much offering me 1 or 2 shifts a week...sometimes none) i would probably accept it.

Lol I asked this last page and nobody answered, luckily I found out at work.

If your HSC is 2009, then don't worry about it. It is for graduates and people in their final years of study who want to progress away from a store and into head office.

My CSM is the biggest tight ass about money missing! He always counts the draw with you at the end of a shift and if it's like 3+ dollars missing he will get really mad and say 'do you know why this might be so and so short'? He wont care if its under like 2 dollars but anything above that he gets sooooo cut. But I guess it's good coz at the end of the week we only have about 15 dollars missing all together. He's pretty kool on everything else its just this he is really up tight about, dont know why??

I remeber a while back there was a notice on the board saying first quater sales
$???,??? (cant remebr what it was) and after that it had with $175.00 register Discrepencies. So i'm guessing we only had $175 missing the first quater lawl.

to be fair, it is policy to have two people present during a spot-check, our SSS once kicked some heads in when she saw one of our supervisors counting a drawer without anybody else

!!!serious??? I have NEVER counted a drawer with someone else present, except on express, and even then they're serving customers. We'd fail this policy every day, assuming its the case for Safeway as well as Woolworths.

We're supposed to spot check with another person, and I'd say that about 60% of the time we do. Whenever we need to spot check a register before someone leaves a supervisor will close them early and snap it with them (as long as its not too busy). If its quiet, we might get a few snaps done during that time with another person.
Our registers need to be resnapped at a difference of $10 either way.

The one thing that annoys me is when i'm working hard and get called up by the front desk for some call to replace an item that's 5m away.

Very annoying.

yeah i remember when we got the new registers suddenly the supervisors had to count registers like that, i think it lasted two weeks.

well we don't do it at my new store and that's the area office, so i guess its a failed policy here.

when you count the registers,what you guys do if it is under or over the amount it should be?
do u tell the CSM about it or you let the operator know??
what is the actual thing??

i usually re-count the drawer straight away, in-case it's a counting error, then I fill out the investigation form if it's +/- 20 over

if it's +/- 50 the SSS is supposed to be informed

what is this investigation form? Does it include the name of operator?

Ey woolies people, just applied for a nightfill job at my local wollies and was just wondering wat the actual job is. Olbviously its a job where i have to put stock up on the shelves but how cdoes it work exactly? am i given like a whole bunch of boxes and asked to put them away my the end of my shift, or do they say do as much as u can?

You will then start in an aisle and go from there. You are meant to pack and face 40-45 boxes/hour, but they will not police this per se. It gets mindless and repetitive after a while. Also, unlike checkouts, you are not only expected to know where every single item in the store is (all 30,000), but will be blamed when a) boxes are in the aisles, heaven forbid, and b) an item is out of stock and this is naturally your fault. It's a thankless job.

Nightfill hours are calculated using some formula, so if you are behind/slow, you (well, your night captain) will be slammed by your duty manager. Good luck.

At our store one of the operators who's been with the store virtually FOREVER (25 years service etc) got counselled the other week as she'd given out an extra twenty dollars by mistake at some point during her shift.
Sad, sad day :(

haha your duty manager shouldn't care less about your night captain and night fill as a whole. Your grocery manager is the one who will slam your night cap. Night fill is calculated using total load size minus ad-stock divided by 47, then add around 10 hours for a full face up. Another thing, if you are packing at around 40-45 cartons per hour, you are going wayyy to slow, thats less then a carton per minute and the box is right in front of where it goes!

Also, my duty manager tells the grocery manager what to do lol. And since the manager likes the duty manager more, thats how the system works. Our duty manager calculates all hours etc, tells the night captain who to send home/stay back. I actually never see our grocery manager. Maybe your store is different.

Well the amounts are culmative throughout the week and are reset Monday morning, so first you have to check with the computer and see what the previous count was. If it's out by more than about $10, the backup supervisor has to count it. If you both get the same count, there are several circumstances that may have occurred. If it's around $100 - $200 out, there's probably a change order that wasn't put in the draw or done properly. If it's a bit more out, like $300 or so it could be a pick-up error. What I'll generally do is spot check all the registers, because sometimes people may 'borrow' from other draws if they give too much cash out, but forget to leave a note.

If it still looks like its the Cashier's mistake, then I'll check the Electronic Journal to see who was on it since it has been dodgy and leave a note for the CSM. I would never ever ever say anything to the Cashier. Never.
