I'm attempting this question for my practice essay on conflicting perspectives.

The question is: "There are no certainties, only representations". Discuss.

I have no clue where to start .. so any suggestions what the question could mean?

Very simply, it means that there are only representations of an event, person, situation etc., no 'certainties' or facts.

You could interpret it as "There are no facts, only opinions/perspectives". So you could discuss different representations/perspectives, show the underlying bias, how each perspective is influenced by one's background, character, personality, upbringing, etc. - subjective as opposed to objective.
