You are entitled to your veiw on the matter though i strongly disagree with it, it is yours. All i can think is 'fucks sake the boy is like 16-17 years old!' I think its disgusting that someone of that age should feel compelled to put themself through something like that.

Im not just talking about the side effects of studying that much, but what it means that someone actually feels they need to do it in the first place. What about his friends? his family? his health? Have students really been pushed to consider these as 2nd to studying for an exam up to a year away?

Yeah, that's true.

But everyone has different need and in many cases, families and friends are the ones who actually PUSH them to strive that hard...

LOL I agree with that.
Study should be an integral part of one's life, but not over-dominant, socialising, rest and sport should also be included.

agreed, will it is amazing that hardcore can handle all that study, he should not as for it will cause mental and a physical drain.

BTW my plans for Japan have been cancelled so yeah, so the first week is going to be nothing but relaxtion with some study, second week going to be normal study of at least 4 hours a day. (not too little and not overly obssessive)

Depends on what your views on "good parents" are and how those parents perceive themselves to be. I mean, my parents view themselves as the best parents on Earth. They provide me with all these things, opportunities and everything (even offered me tonnes of tutorings that I declined).

They would consider making their children study 24/7 and making them get good marks is the right way of parenthood as they perceive that good UAI = better job = better life. But they themselves don't realise the potential consequences of studying 24/7.

I will just stop commenting on someone else's study routine as this thread is becoming spammy...

8 hours a day for maths, 1 essay per day for english in 2 hours. 2 hours each day reading frankenstein. 5 hours each day for phys and chemistry.

1 hour break, 6 hour sleep. REPEAT.

Same here. Once I get into hol, I will get into outdoor activities and 2 hours of exercise everyday (hopefully, if not just 1 hour) and enjoy watching Oprah Show at 1 pm (I think).

Ah..cannot wait for that time. In comparison to what I am expecting during hol, my current life is hell and a total nightmare that I want to escape out of as soon as possible.

My parents encourage me to study hard as well.
But they've also encouraged me to take a bit of a break during the holidays - and that's what I'm planning to do.

i plan on bumming around most of the time - thew only work i will bother doing is a bit of maths - read my extension text (wuthering heights - what a bore - and maybe start thinking about my BOW for visual arts. other than that make the most of my last holiday of freedom and do some chill-axing in QLD. cant wait!
