Well if you provide relevant evidence that actually supports your argument, and write a well constructed paragraph, that should at least impress the marker.

As an example, there was a feature article assessment in yr 11, and I was pretty pleased with the one I had done (I'm usually never pleased with my english assessments). Even the highest ranked students were like, "whoa! that's much better than mine!" And then I ended up getting 8/15, which sucks (I usually get 12+, and that's with assessments I'm NOT pleased with). The marker's comments said something like not enough quotes and explanation of the novel or something (we were supposed to relate it to a novel). Thinking that I was supposed to write as if I was writing a REAL feature article, I only touched upon it (which is what my teacher recommended), but the marking teacher was looking for an informal essay (which is not what feature articles are supposed to be! It even said on the assessment notice that it was to be written as a feature article). GRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Her class ended up getting the highest marks, even though her class wasn't the top english class. I'm guessing that it's because she told her class exactly how she wanted it.

English sucks.

bleh i love english ! such an outcast ><"

essays for english are just mainly: intro -> body -> evidence (quotes whatever) -> techniques ->conclusion. but you should make your essays flow and link directly back to the questions that is being asked in every paragraph you write.

anyways yeah knowing that assignments count freak me out

at the moment ive got heaps and some of them are worth a LOT of my hsc marks

business studies (week 6 tuesday) 30%
english (week 7 tuesday) 15%
history extension (week 7 friday) 20%
modern history (week 8 or 9?) 25%
maths (week 8 or 9?) 10%

yes but feature articles don't and shouldn't follow that layout :( Feature articles shouldn't be an informal essay.

I think theres meant to be one oral somehwere in the year, and your school chooses whether its your AOS or your Modules. Or maybe its just AOS. But theres a minimum requirement of one.

I have a AoS View/Rep task coming up. That's going to be interesting.

Going back to the feature article-versus-essay thing, that's one thing I hate about English. I want to be a journalist and read newspapers, so when they say 'write an article' or 'letter to the editor' I write how I see them. I almost died when my y10 Eng teacher said letters were meant to be an a4 sheet. The worst assignment I've ever done was an Ext Eng one, where we had to create a newspaper with an article, review and something else on the texts we did. I just simply couldn't work out how to write a feature article analysing one piece of text, then randomly linking it back to Jane Eyre.
