During year 10 when teachers give you hints on what subjects to choose and why.

I now know that, that
WAS A LOAD OF SHIIT
wtf that *is* true. your counter example is?

That Years 7-10 count for nothing. This way I would've slacked off more back then, and not started slacking off when tests and things started meaning something. :(

As soon as you get it, it's worthless

You can only study x hours in a day, after that it's all down to what school you go to.

Re: Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your HSC

1.) self-destructive DEMOTIVATION mantras will eventually suffocate anyyyyyyy sense of motivation you might have had... the 'i don't care, i don't need a numerical estimate to be judged' and 'in 20 years time... this won't mean anything'. WARNING: once contracted they spread through most aspects of your life too. :bomb: that's why i am now 20kg heavier and 5 x uglier... i let myself go a long time ago... i need a cunning little disguise like this one >>>> :santa:

2.) How aggrivating it is to see people who have always been below me now doing well, very well.. or killing it.

3.) that i'd discovered this sight sooner... instead of my guilty pleasures, which are now just my normal afternoon of eating, watching tv and sleeping... could be soooooomewhat related to HSC.

4.) i never wanted a GREAT mark anyway... "you only want what you can't have"... which is to piss everybody and all my teachers off with taking their jokes about how piteous the HSC is to a whole new level.

5.) people whose comments that 'i study for like x hrs' way too audibly aren't actually that impressive... 5 hours doesn't get much done. enough time to have a wank, scratch your a$$ and highlight some notes.

6.) how secretly competitive people get, and how much 'tension' is created because of marks, assessments, ranks etc.

7.) That Tyler Durden's directions in Fight Club for making napalm are actually easy to follow and could be tested on your school or UAC.

8.) That people like me who theoretically have everything should be booted in the head. people's dads, mums, brothers, sisters etc have actually died this yr or been really ill. I ain't got sh*t on that.

9.) that filling in an access form actually makes you feel pathetic, NOT yyyyyeeeha! i'm gone get me some extra points.

10.) having your monthly/weekly/daily self-pity rant and rave is NOT interesting at all to other people. nobody cares...

11.) that in 5 yrs time, people who did more work than me will probably be more succesfull... because they actually have motivation and qualities that translate into a career... whatevs i'm just gonna get me some video equipment and some lube, whose up for HSC (How to Suck Cock) class of 07 knows best, home-video porno?

Re: Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your HSC

oh, and another thing that i wish i had known: that i don't need to do any sciences at all to get into medicine (instead i chose to do all three of them..... fayl), and that i should have chosen subjects which i had strength in (like MUSIC and CHINESE!!!!!!) ..... yep, and another fayl right there.

my whole life is a massive fayl.

on the upside, +1 post. =D

I wish I knew what I wanted to do so I could have chosen better subjects.

I wish I knew that it matters what school you go to, thereby enabling me to actually get to a good school with quality teaching.

I wish I knew that after coming first without studying, I would ahve to study to keep said rank.

That the primary thing one learns from the HSC is how to answer HSC-style questions;

that one learns more biology in Agriculture than in Biology;

that the candidature of French at school is minuscule for good reason (read: 3 exams per assessment period).

Like all subjects, the scaling will only affect you if you perform poorly. Whoever fed you this load of crap is stupid.

Wish i had never picked math - went from 3unit to 2unit and then finally general math in year 12. You'd think that general math would decrease the amount of time needed for studying but nooo...it's pretty much the same. I should've done legal or ancient - i would've enjoyed it much more. :mad1: Sigh...

well standard english does scale pretty bad. Isn't it also capped?

i wish i'd realised that 13 units of work is not that different from 11. Then i would have taken one my subject and hopefully had a lot of fun.

it's not capped. It's just that most students who have the ability for a Band 6 do Advanced. That's my assumption, anyway, considering all courses are marked against standards.

Yeah it is capped but that doesn't mean it will scale you down immensely. I know plenty of people who did standard, received marks in the 80s and 90s and got extremely high uais and no they didn't do any 4 or 3 unit subjects. Fuck scaling :)
