English - write practice essays and give them to your teacher to revise.
For maths - do your homework and lots of questions

English:

Identify some key quotes within the texts which are adaptable to many different themes. This allows you to think on your feet when given something specific to write about.

Understand the context in which the texts were written in. This allows you to give your responses a bit more punch by showing the marker that you can explain why something was done in a certain way.

Maths - Past papers, past papers, past papers. I can't stress this enough. Do past papers, either the whole paper or look for topics which you have done and then go over questions you got wrong and fix them, and do similar ones from textbooks to practise.

Legal - Make notes according to dot points in the syllabus and then find heaps of legislation, cases and media articles to supplement your notes.

For bio and chem, understand what you are learning and make notes according to the syllabus. Memorisation of material is also important along with doing past papers. For English, practice writing within a time limit and write as much as possible.

English: Develop a body of knowledge, basically an assortment of quotes and concepts that you can then apply to different questions. Once you're confident of that, go do said questions. Then do them again. Try to engage in some reading generally as well. It can improve your expression no end, and really helps to prepare you for a creative response. Plus reading can be fun ;)
