A young girl has been crushed to death by a massage table at a health clinic at Saint Morris in Adelaide's eastern suburbs.

Police say the 18-month-old girl was trapped when a mechanical massage table was being lowered at the Fravira clinic in Magill Road.

Her mother was in a consulting room and had been receiving a massage from a therapist at the time. She is now being treated for shock.

The girl's father rushed to the clinic when told the news.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner on the circumstances of the death.
