I did read in the sat paper that employers now don't care what uni you went to only the course that you did and what you can do and learn
some probably do, but when you think about it, once you have some type of experience (start small), the uni you went to would be as relevant as which high school you went to. Some might care, most probably know better.

and im still waiting on evidence about maq failing some assessment... the more i think about it, the guy that said it did sound like a bit of a git.

why does everyone keep refering to ANU as the best, then unsw, then usyd and then the rest?
As was stated before, it is purely based on research and the number of sitings in journals/papers/theses etc. The fact that ANU are listed near the top is that some of their faculties have some brilliant researchers who produce worthwhile papers every now and then and everyone has to leech from them and include them in their reference section for their own findings

well thats what i've read anyway.
But of course, there's the pride in going to a top 200 uni. Like sydney is 'SO' good. Like it's like, like the bestest uni, you know like, like it's so good, wow i can't find the words to describe it.

yeah i sound gay, so do the rest of you shameless bragging sods :)

The point is that any differences between unis in the GO8 is minimal, and you can't really go wrong with any of them.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out whether I wanna do an arts degree at USYD or an arts/comm at UTS. Alot of people bitch about the life at UTS and cos the campus is a city block as opposed to acres of trees and shit...

there is no arts/comm at UTS. i think u mean B Bus (Intl studies) at UTS. it's not really arts, since all they do is make sending u to another country, a compulsory component of the degree.

i think the Arts degree will skyrocket. it's so unpredictable, so unstable.

The assessment isnt based on how good their teachers are and that kind of thing....

It's based on how funds are allocated and how the uni is managed, and generally, just like a busines si guess, if management and finance's suck, there could be trouble in future... This assessment is more based on quality of resources and how much the uni tried to develop and improve its methods andthat kind of thing...

It depends on what law subjects you want to do - i've been told by a few law firms and barristers at traineeship interviews and at info days and stuff that they dont like hiring Mac Uni law grads unless they're stand outs because they tend to be less well trained as the course isnt as well structured or taught as unsw, uws or uts.

But if you dont wanna do a full BLaws, just some 'law subject' within another degree, Mac uni would be a good choice :)

But, as I always have said, altho a lot of people seem to forget that and take what im saying as gospelor something:p, totally just my opinion! I just think that if employers and lawyers display a total lack of respect for it as far as B Laws compared to other unis, another uni would be a better option.

Just to offer a different opinion: (I'm not disagreeing with you, anything you said, or saying that I don't believe you)

According to the Good Universities Guide <http://www.thegoodguides.com.au/>, mac law grads have an average starting salary of $45562- better than the national average ($39009), UTS ($41247), UWS, ($39618), Sydney ($41803) and only slightly lower than UNSW ($45998).

Additionally, the percentage of mac grads seeking work is only 9%, the same as the national avg., much better than UWS (24%) and about equal to UTS (7%), Sydney (7%) and UNSW (6%).

I know a couple of mac law students who really enjoy the course, and an arts/law mac grad with a high-paying job in a law firm who says that the only difference between a law education at sydney and mac is that at sydney they indoctrinate you with snobbishness (I'm not saying I agree with that opinion, don't scream at me for saying it).

Also, the criticisms that LaraB offers really only apply if you are intending to use your law degree to become a barrister/solicitor in a top notch law firm. I think only about 30% (I'm not sure on this one) of law grads actually become lawyers, and there are plenty of other jobs which a law degree is useful for in both the public and private sectors.

It just depends on your perspective and what you want out of your degree I suppose.

haha yeah, I agree, I'm also sick of hearing ANU being reputed as the best uni. I don't think it's any better than any other Go8 uni, and ppl only think its the best based on its research which most undergrads wouldn't give a rats ass about. Also there is no way that UNSW is better than Usyd, which seems to be a misconceived idea floating around on these boards.

Yo ppl if you have not realised the list doesn't break uni's down into their specialisations and assesses them as a whole. So you can't say that a Uni is better or worse than another uni unless you are planning on doing every course offered by a particular uni.
