Topics learnt in math1151 that carry onto later courses? (1 Viewer)

just wanted to know what topics which we learn in 1151 we will need in 1251 and other actuarial courses. im guessing we will need probability. but is anything else important. tnks.

1251 Alg is complex numbers, vectors spaces, linear transformations and eigenvalues. You'll need all the stuff about matrices and solving systems of equations for the last three of those.

1251 Calc is integration, differential equations, sequences and series, several variable calc. It builds on the calculus you've done, although some of it could have been done without 1151 if you did ext 2. The differential equations is mainly just learning some algorithms but there is some abstract stuff that uses vector spaces and linear transformations. Some of the series stuff (like does 1+1/2+1/3+1/4+... converge) is like the improper integrals stuff (eg does int(1/x,x=1..infinity) converge?).

The proper term for this is 'Real Analysis' though methods of 'Complex Analysis' can be applied to real integrals.

Chapter 5 -> probability and Statistics will carry onto ACTL1001 and will defs be used in ACTL2002 (maybe ACTL2001).

One thing you must see in some of the ACTL stats courses will be linear regression models. If you look up the wikipedia article you'll see that it uses heaps of 1st year maths
