Transferring from Curtin engineering to UNSW (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,
So I'm just wondering how difficult it would be to transfer from a degree in computer engineering at curtin university to a double (arts and computer engineering) degree at unsw- after one year of study. I'm currently living in Perth, in year 12 with a predicted atar of 98 really want to study at unsw but unfortunately can't afford to move interstate at the moment. No universities in Perth offer a double in arts and computer engineering (yeah I know it's a weird combination.)

Anyway I would like to know:

How difficult is it to transfer/ how competetive is it/ what kind of first year results would be required?

What credit transfers would I be able to get? Could I contact the universities to find this out or is this not really feasible until I've actually completed a year?

Would I just be better off working full time for a year and then applying under the guaranteed entry scheme (taking a gap year)?

imo, it would be a good idea to take a gap year to pay for the expenses of moving to sydney.

sydney is very expensive and you will very likely struggle financially unless you're making like 500+/week

I'm seriously considering that. Only thing is my parents are going to get me to pay board unless I commence university inmediately. So I'm not sure how much more I'd be able to save working full time than if I worked part time while studying but not paying board.

I'm half-contemplating just saving up for a 5k van and living in it lol.

500/week is just to get by comfortably

rent 300 give or take
food: 100
travel: 30
leisure: 50 give or take

to be honest if you're working full time, you can afford the board (idk how much parents charge like maybe $200?) but that will only be a small amount in comparison to what you will make full time

lets say you make $1000/week full time after tax, you'd have $800 savings which works out to be about $3k/month = about $35k by the end of the year. that would be a sufficient start in sydney.

I'd opt for the gap year imo. I doubt UNSW would have a lot of credit transfers from curtain anyways and that way if you have a decent atar, you can get straight in after the gap year

Yeah thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to take the gap year. Looking at the course outlines- curtin does a "general engineering" first year before focusing in on the actual specialisation while unsw just goes straight into the computer bit, so you're right- it's highly doubtful that there will be many credit transfers from that. It would probably be easier to move from UWA to UNSW than from Curtin, since UWA & UNSW are both "group of 8" research universities, while Curtin is more of a tech uni - more applied.
