Can you continue to the next trimester if you fail 1 subject out of 4?

Yes you can. However, you won't be able to do courses that have that failed course as a pre requisite. Also, if it's a core subject you will have to retake it at some point

If I do need to retake that course, it is only offed in trimester 1. So I would need to take in trimester 1 next year?

There is no other way really.

Yeah have to wait till next year. If that subject is a pre requisite for a lot of courses and you don't have enough courses to do in the next term you should consider finishing off other parts of the degree. For instance in many degrees you have to do free electives and general education courses, you could do those in the meantime to minimise the overall delay to your degree
