HI all!!

Simple story: 92 atar- no Ba Laws/arts for me (cept @ UWS)

A COMPLICATED choice ahead
. I'll either accept that, or take up a random interest (eg Arts/Media) @ UNSW
ON Transfers: I read that you DO actually need 97+ atar (as well as D/HD av) for tranfers.
Anyone know if that's true?
Cos then I have no chance at either internal/external tranfers (even wif fab uni grades)...

So then... should I repeat yr 12?
1) Im sure I will do better. How much, who knows? But at least, Law @ MAQ/UTS might become options.
2) I think I can deal with the embarassment factor :shy:... *sighss* (for the sake of this thread, lets assume I can)

Btw can I repeat yr 12 @ my school? (not tafe, cos at my highschool, the teachers are great)
Plus maybe I'll score a scholarship this time round to make it worthwhiile??? =)

ANY STORIES PLEASE SHARE!!!! Im sooo confused >.<

I definitely don't think you should repeat yr12.. but other than that I don't really have advice. But seriously, I'm sure you want to move on from high school haha there are other options.. no need to repeat yr12 of all years.

Forget repeating Year 12. That's a definite no go-zone.

Where is this B Law/Arts degree you are looking at?

For UNSW, https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/academiclife/program_transfer/program_trans_Law.html

For students in non-Law programs transferring to Combined Law
UNSW students who have completed a full load of 48 units of credit (UOC) with no failures in their first year of study will be eligible to apply for an internal program transfer to Combined Law. Students will be assessed on the Weighted Average Mark (WAM) in their first year of study. UNSW Law will guarantee a minimum of 100 places for the most competitive applicants to enrol in Combined Law the following year.

Don't repeat yr 12.

Not getting into a combined law degree isn't the end of the world. A lot of people do graduate law ie. go and do an undergraduate degree of your choice, get a good wam, and apply for a graduate law degree at unsw if that's where you want to go (ie the JD- juris doctor). It is a 3 year degree and basically identical to the LLB that people do combined. It takes 3 years, so it is only one extra year than doing a combined degree. :)

Ok Thx people! Not going to repeat after all! THe New YEAR 2012 whacked some good sense into me.

Oh and AussieVesti: I was looking at perhaps BArts/Law at Uni of Western Sydney (Parramatta campus), but just doubtful cos it seems a t-a-d trashy from all I've heard (no offence to UWS graduates intended!!).

So UNSW here I come! Just needa get the grades...we'll see =)

Wait... WHAT??? I just read that you need a 95+ ATAR PLUS over 75WAM for UNSW internal transfer???? Or else a 97+ATAR PLUS over 70WAM, or something like that

Point being: DOES THAT MEAN I JUST CANT GET A TRANSFER into Law (FULL STOP)???? Just because of my stupid atar? What happened to all that "no one cares about ur atar in uni?"

Omg.

If anyone knows any success stories that prove this wrong, DO SHARE pretti please =)

Oh Im so confused. I checked out that webpage that D94 linked & it just mentioned 1st yr results, being assessed...
Someone correct me or something, before I choose a B Arts at UNSW (majoring in Int'l relations) & either:
a) Get the transfer into Combined Law with D/HD averages or
b) Be stuck & have limited employment prospects...

[I mean, tbh, I am hoping for a decent salary of what... 60/70/80k eventually? In saying that, I'm not THAT set in pursuit of a 6digit sum that I go and commit to BCommerce >< ]

=S CAn't decide which degree to choose.

There's University Of Notre Dame too in Broadway. I think their ATAR is 90 for law? I heard that Macquarie sometimes take law students who are a few points below the cut-off... around 92-93ish. Put it as a preference still, worth a try. Don't repeat, just transfer if need be.

Wait... WHAT??? I just read that you need a 95+ ATAR PLUS over 75WAM for UNSW internal transfer????
That was waved and internal transfers don't require a minimum ATAR anymore and now have a minimum of 100 guaranteed places for internal transfers based on tertiary marks, generally a distinction avg.
