Re: Truong's tutoring, any comments?

He's been with Truong for a while now. I attended some of his classes in my junior years - he's quite a good teacher, it's just English tutoring didn't seem necessary for me anymore.
Huh .. I was told he made his own tuition with my old English teacher back when he just left JAC in Fairfield. It's a shame I didn't get a chance to have him as a teacher for my current senior years. Oh wells.

Re: Fairfield Troung's recommendation - English

People told me that he hired ex-students to teach. Pay them cheap. Get the fresh stuff they got from their HSC. I think that makes perfect business sense as a coaching place for students who want high HSC marks.
The ex-students teach the junior grades, he personally takes all classes halfway through year 10 and up...

Payment isnt all too bad as well...from what i heard its about 75$ a class which goes for 1:45 to 2 hours

It's interesting that he partnered with people teaching at selective schools to teach English. I suppose ex-students would not do too well teaching English? Or parents just would not trust students to teach English to students.

I do not know what sources people are using to form their opinions, but they are either completely wrong, or deliberately antagonistic, and if you honestly wish to know more about the centre or Dr Ngo then you should stop relying on these people.

I am an employee at Ngo and Sons. I am paid $80 to teach 1hr 45 mins, receive 9% superannuation, worker's compensation, and my two younger siblings receive free tuition. As you can see, this is definitely not cheap (it works out to be roughly $200 per week) and is much, much more than any other tutoring centres can boast, and even some other jobs, especially for young employees. He does not exploit us, ever. However this is not the reason the staff at Ngo and Sons stay there. Dr Ngo is an excellent employer and person who has given everybody around him so much and personally, it really saddens me to read some of the ignorant or misinformed comments on this thread.

Yes, some of our English teachers are from selective schools - they have considerable skill and experience (I see Ms Diab is quite famous!) - but we also have ex-students teaching English, and student and parent feedback has been encouraging. In particular, these ex-students are actually in the midst of their Education degrees (I know two are majoring in English too), so are receiving the newest training and resources too. Surprisingly, the drop-out rates for their classes are even lower than those belonging to some of the more experienced teachers.

I am not fresh from my HSC. In fact, I'm graduating from Uni soon. However all the teaching staff receive regular training by Dr Ngo to refresh our skills and get pointers on how to teach effectively, and ensure that our kids are getting the best we can give them. I can look you straight in the eye and tell you honestly that it is not just a business and not just maths - we genuinely care about our students. (By the way, thank you to my students who told me about this and have stuck up for the centre and Sir. But no, you're not getting extra marks in your exams!)

personally, i'm panicking every week because of Truong's tutoring, but it has immensely helped my mathematics and english. It would be a better tutoring centre if truong was nicer and not drill the students when asking for answers rofl

He rejected me from joining his tuiton centre on the basis - his students have all completed the coursework... I doubt it. I've done heaps...

It's the drilling that makes sir different to other tutors - you'll find out on your last lesson why he does it.

He actually does go a LOT faster than school.

Does anyone here go to/or went to Truongs math tutoring (in fairfield)...?

What are the best/worst things about his tutoring?

Why do you think his popularity has surged? Is it the tutoring quality itself or his entertaining personality? :p

Best things - the tricks, competitive environment, truong's way of doing everything just makes things easy.

Worst things - there's only one thing that bothers me, rarely.. the answers to the homework are wrong. but this only happens on easy topics so you know you're right.

well.. i believe his popularity has surged because.. his students get top notch hsc results and hence he constantly gets referred by parent to parent. the tutoring quality is as good as it gets. he's definitely one of the most fun people i've ever met, and its amazing how we can get through massive amounts of theory in a short period of time, be enterained, and understand the work. regular testing also drives you to study to the point where you know the particular topic inside out.

if you have the time and patience for him, he is a great teacher but can be very intimidating if you're an idiot. i was probably one of his worse students, i was smart as when i actually went to class and did great in the tests but then i came less and less because i didn't like the environment too much and i hate being put on the spot. if he thinks you're an idiot, he'll let you know you're an idiot and he will make you feel like one so don't be an idiot! so because i went less and less i was missing out on theory so i was doing bad in his tests then i eventually left. first of all the reason why i left was because i was doing so much work that year going to tutoring was exhausting. i would have a 10 hour school day then go straight there. plus giving up truong was also because i gave up on 3 unit to try to loosen the work load a bit. despite all this though he is a good guy, we got one great, surprisingly he liked me a lot considering how half assed i was.

beware though, he can sometimes be very traditional, but if you're a girl, you are a bove the law. and also beware, you will be surrounded by a bunch of asians.

i speak for mat ext1 only.

lol you remind me of me, i was actually a really good student until i couldn't stand being questioned on the spot anymore so i started skipping out and when it got to the tests i was doing bad, i didn't even like maths anyway and i was doing 3unit with him. he liked me A LOT though despite the fact i was so half assed, i always did my hw the day it was due at school
