It depends on the subject. Tutes are highly recommended.

It really depends on your tutor. Both my maths tutors prefer us turning up, the same with computing. But my eng. mech. and physics tutors don't mind. They only have us turn up if we need help with the work.

Yeh maths is 80% from what I remember, but I can't seem to find this on paper anywhere. Try your maths info booklet or the maths website.

The COMP2711 tutorials are apparently compulsory (according to the course outline) ...

With most subjects no, but for a coupke they are (especially Commerce/INFS, they normally have an attendence mark)

The university regulations state that you have to attend atleast 85% of your tutorials or you will be failed in that subject. However, it is rarely, if ever, enforced.

In some subjects not turning up can make it hard to pass, like when you are assigned into a group assignment group. Also, turning up helps you to learn = less study required to pass.

The reason attendance is often marked is this:

Student A attends every single tutorial, does okay in all her assignments, and gets 47 for the final exam.
Student B doesn't attend any tutes, does okay in all her assignments, and gets 47 for the final exam.

Who would YOU pass? :)
