What I want to know is why. The news report depicts them as seemingly innocent apart from this incident. i.e. they had no criminal record or anything to do with drugs or alcohol plus they had supportive families. What brought them to do such a thing?

You don't have to have a reason. Some people are just shit. :/
It's really upsetting that 17 year olds from normal families could do this though. The pain on the victim, her family and the kids' families would be distraught and blaming themselves.

I just cannot fathom what would go through your mind as you slit the throat of an elderly woman. Prison is in place to protect society from the dangerous and punish those for crimes commit. I honestly think that someone willing to do that is the most dangerous of all people. We have enough hate in our world and we don't need another group of 17 year olds thinking they are mad cunts and doing shit like that.
