OK. I have optus cable normally, but of course half-way into the month i reach the dreaded cap and get slowed down to 28K.
I also have my computer networked to two others, one of which has a dial-up connection.
How can i set it up so that when I download, i use the internet resources of the other computer as well as my own?
BTW, the other computer already has internet connection sharing installed so that the third computer has internet access. My own computer doesnt have ICS installed (i'm greedy and dont want to share my bandwidth)...

Not physically possible... and if it is, it will be quite silly since you'll only be at a speed of 7 KB

It actually is possible.

I think the correct term is multi-linking. Google it.

maybe i shouldn't talk considering i'm the one with the problem but i'd think that with all the technology etc that we have, it should be possible to do something reasonably simple like that.
and while you might call 7KB silly, i call 3-4KB even sillier.

Then what do you use?

AND also, what speed is optus like eg 512/128, how fast is optus??

What do you people think of ihug's unlimited plan for adsl?? Does it have alot of downtime? By the term they use unlimited they must have a limit right if not they are basically asking for trouble from heavy downloaders.... so yeah answers please....

Optus cable speed varies a bit. It's typically faster than ADSL. ADSL has set speed limits like 512/128, which means you download at around 51kb/s and upload at about 13kb/s

yea you just divide by eight to get the bytes coversion from bits. so its 512/8 = 64kb, and 128/8 = 16kb. :)

yea i got capped too... i had to switch to my dialup. gay optus... they cap you at 0.5kb/s :(
Should be 10 Megabits like Telstra.

1 Megabit = 125 KB

125 KB * 10 = 1 Megabyte.

what the... there is something wrong with your math. :p

nah im pretty sure optus goes at only 8 mega bits... unless... damn liars.

8 bits = 1 byte
1kb = 1024 bytes
1meg = 1048576 bytes

therefore 1 megabit is 128kb.

128kb * 8 = 128*(1024)*8 = 1048576 bytes = 1 megabyte. :)

your telstra calculation is ultimately wrong lol. :p

i checked out that multi-link thing. it seems to only be for dial-up, and generally with the same ISP - ie. an ISP offers the multilink feature for usually a little less than double the price of two accounts.
has anyone else got an idea on the matter?

That's why my downloads are slow? Like 30kbs etc... NEVER 128kb even so very rare and only at fasttt websites.

Yes its possible, but very few ISPs offer it. Seeing you want to use your capped cable its very unlikely to work. At the ISPs end, they simply connect you to two of their dial up modems, this isn't the case when you're on cable.
