Because the Brand A claim only compares Brand A to Brand B, and Brand A claims to be 'the best' simply because it is better than Brand B, then you can conclude that Brand B must be the best of all of Brand A's competitors (C). None of the statements about sales or price can be concluded since there is nothing in the argument that links quality of the product to these factors.

12.

While the doctor does tell Mr Roe the truth in a direct way (option A), the statement is not appropriate. Mr Roe was certain he did not have cancer. Such a blunt statement does not give him a chance to adjust - to recognise and understand the consequences of his illness, and is likely to overwhelm him with despair or anger. It does not display empathy, which is a significant fault identified in option B. It is true that the statement offers less room for Mr Roe to challenge the doctor's diagnosis (option C) but this is not appropriate. Option D is incorrect because the comment is not phrased 'harshly', just bluntly.

Questions

Question 13
Two couples, sitting together on a park bench, pose for a photograph.

If neither couple wishes to be separated, the number of different possible seating arrangements is

a) 2

b) 3

c) 4

d) 8

Question 12

'How are you feeling, Mr Johnson?' the man says to me. The man is dressed in a white coat. He appears to be a doctor. 'My name is Dr Harris. I'm the resident Neurological specialist.'

'Neurological,' I repeat, and then touch my head. No bandage. The doctor nods.

'So what's my condition?' I ask.

'You've been comatose for several weeks. You had severe head injuries.'

Head injuries? I think about that for a moment when it suddenly dawns on me that I cannot remember what happened and don't know where I am.

'So could my memory be affected?' I ask.

'Certainly,' he said. 'Without a doubt, the explosion, and events immediately preceding and following it would be unclear to you. That's normal. There may be more substantial memory loss.'

'What happened? You said I was in an explosion?'

'I'm afraid that I don't know many of the details behind what happened to you. I only know that there was an explosion of some kind. I have no information as to the condition of your family.'

I watch his eyes as he says this to me. Something tells me this man is lying. Time passes.

'Okay then,' the doctor says as he opens the door. 'If you have any more questions, buzz the nurse.' He leaves and closes the door behind him.

The doctor could best be described as

a) Empathetic
b) Cold
c) Detached
d) Pleasant

Let: AB and CD be the couples

ABCD
CDAB
BADC
DCBA
ABDC
CDBA
BACD
DCAB

Another way to think of it is let the couples be X and Y

Then there are two arrangements of the couples - XY or YX

A couple can be arranged to seat in 2 ways - AB or BA (where AB can be either X or Y)

So the answer is 2 couples, arranged in 2 ways, and each couple arranged in another 2 ways inclusively: 2x2x2 = 8

14) C

He didn't really connect with the patient or anything.

question 14 - E (hes a normal doctor who has many other patients to see, paperwork to fill out and college exams to pass. if you need emotional support, speak to a friend.)

looking back now, some of these questions seem very stupid.

13. D
14. C - He is detached, he is not showing a) any sympathy towards his well being, the fact that he may have lost his memory is stated very bluntly with no effort whatsoever of trying to quell any of the patient's potential concerns. b) I don't think it's being cold, isn't trying to be detached, and thus being cold by ignoring the patients feelings. d) Just no.

Question 15

On a forum called Bored of Studies, a person under the alias Sainteced creates a thread offering 2 UMAT questions per day. He gets a huge number of replies and many people thank him for creating such a thread.

Every day, he replies to every single answer, offering a full explanation as to what they did correctly or incorrectly. At all times, he was patient with his answers.

However one day, he fails to post these 2 UMAT questions, and a single user points this out and draws a sad face.

This user most likely feels:

a) Betrayed

b) Disappointed

c) Depressed

d) Impatient

Can't he get in trouble for that?
Yes, I can.

Sorry guys but I received a warning from a representative of Medentry (where the resources were sourced) and hence I will be no longer posting up questions. However if you have questions regarding the UMAT I will try my best to answer but please don't post any questions.

Thank you

I just wanted to know if practicing with the medentry questions alone helped you achieve the required UMAT score for medicine. Or did you do something else as well?
