Hi Guys,

I'm in Year 11 currently and I am desperate for advice with regard to dropping Chemistry. I am aware of the fact that Year 11 counts towards nothing, but I need to make the right choice for Year 12 subject selections. I am really BAD at it but I really don't want to drop it.

English (Standard): 3/95
Mathematics: 3/120
Maths Extension: 6/88
Chemistry: 35/85
Economics: 4/40
Studies of Religion: 3/70
Ancient History: 4/35

School rank is in the top 40. :haha:

okay, so my Chemistry is really bad... and I was told that Chemistry will affect my UAI negatively.

So can I please get a UAI estimate with Chemistry and one without Chemistry. I'm aiming for a really high UAI like 98. Will there be a big difference to my UAI if I keep it?

Thanks :)

Only your best 10 units are counted, so no, if you flunk it it won't be counted.

i'm gonna say 99+ because from those ranks it looks like ur coming about 6-8 in your year at a 40+ school, my school was ranked 70 and we got 19 99+'s

thats with and without chemistry since top 10 units count, keep it if you need it for a uni course else drop it; sorry if i'm way off

Thanks guys for all the estimates. I think I'll keep Chemistry until my marks drop below average. I might need it for some courses, lol. There was a good point made above about the fact that only the best 10 units count. I didn't think of that, haha.

@ Aplus... (if referring to me) I plan to change to English Advanced if the two people ahead of me do. :)
@ Dumbledore... Thanks. I don't think I'll get there, but I'll try my very best. Yeah.. our school had around 15, 99+ UAIs. However, most people who got these marks were English nerds. :(
@Timothy... (just realised) Wow! You go to Sydney Boys! I have a family friend who went to Sydney Boys, who achieved fairly mediocre marks and then got a UAI of 99.25. You High Boys are brilliant!

Good luck in your HSC.
