these are trial marks and and assesment ranks. I dont know if it makes any difference but my assesment marks are generally a fair bit better than the trial marks (particularly in maths), but these marks are what i'm expecting in the HSC

Chem 75% 3/13
english advanced 87% 3/27
Information processing and tech 70% 1/11
Maths 2U 80% 1/24
Maths ext1 ~50% 2/9
Physics 70% 1/10

thanks

I go to swansea high in Newcastle and I seriously doubt our rank is even slightly decent. I know that last year only ONE student got ONE band six (engineering studies I think)

a little higher than that...

Can my school rank really affect it that much. That's a pretty huge disadvantage, it's not like I had a choice. We dont have all the fancy private schools some of you guys have in sydney

Its not like because of your school's rank, your UAI will be scaled accordingly.

Rather a school's rank just gives us some contextual information so we can better estimate your possible UAI.

so why does it change from high 80's to mid seventies because of my schools rank?

Im hoping for a place a USYD for a Combined Law Degree, either Arts/Law or International Studies/Law: 99.55

Also applied for law at Macquarie, UNSW and UTS

My courses and marks:

Extension Two English: 47 (ranked 1st in Course)
Extensioin One English: 45 (ranked 1st in Course)
Advanced English: 90 (ranked 1st in Course)
Modern History: 89 (ranked 1st in Course)
Ancient History: 90 (ranked 1st in Course)
Studies of Religion: 92 (ranked 2nd in Course
Legal Studies 94 (ranked 1st in Course)
History Extension 49 (ranked 1st in Course)

The Question is: Can i get the mark necessary for a law degree at USYD

if not, what UAI am i looking at?

Thankyou all

(School rank is decent, Last Year our top mark was 98.9 UAI and had 5 or 6 students in the 90 UAI range)

wow you freak!! i only topped 3/5 subjects! hahaha

i would say with those you could get 99.6 or above. plus you have probably worked harder in stuvac so id say youll hit what you need.

curiosity- can that 99.55 go up for 2007 entrants?

it probably will..itll depend on the popularity..it was a bit down last year so they dropped by .5..lol..dont know..might go down or up. for some people .5 is the difference between going to sydney or UNSW

if the top mark last year was 98.9, and if that person was as dominant as you, you will get get around the same.

someone like you should try for alternative entry into usyd law - but thats if you've done stuff like mock trial, mooting or even volunteer work at a law firm. if you dont get usyd or unsw law, consider going to mac. if you maintain a credit average in your law subjects you would have a pretty good chance of transferring.

No...see thats where the difference lies. He wasnt as dominant as i have been this year. he maybe topped 3 or 4 subjects. Topping 7 subjects is unprecedented at my school.lol. So yeah..im much more dominant than the top UAI last year.

a prediction for those who can manage please:

These are marks and ranks from trials. Most of the papers used were CSSA

("subject": "mark", "rank")
English (adv.): 71, 90/153
English (ext.): 41, 32/80
Maths: 66, 57/82
Geography: 75, 5/6
Drama: 87, 7/15
Music: 78, 4/6

I go to North Sydney Boys and am looking for at least UAI 90. Will I make it?
