Hey, i was wonderin if someone could jus read over my essay plan n tell me what they think

discuss causes of unemplyoment and social/economic costs in relation to aussie economy
  • what is unemployment
  • Recent unemployment performance
  • Cyclical cause
    • domestic growth (keynesian diagram)
      • peristent expansion for 17 years = elimination of cylical unemployment
    • Global growth (IBC)
      • recent commodities boom
    • Government policy settings (stabilisation of fluctioations in business cycle diagram
  • Structural Causes
    • Productivity levels
      • recent drop in productivity has led to rise in structural unemployment as firms substitute capital for labour
    • Technological change
      • PMV and TCF industried affected
    • Wage levels
      • Aus high wage economy in low wage region = outsourcing
      • Labour market reform carried out to reduce this problem
    • Ridgitied in job market
      • Job network formed
    • Micro reform - protection cuts

Add something about frictional employment, underemployment and there is ine more I just can't remember the name and should be a sweet essay

frictional will come under the creation of job network...and i'd probably throw in underemployment with the labour market reform...increased flexibility= increased parttime/casual and therefore increased underemployment....but that whole things gunna be a bitch to fit into 50 mins lol

Underemployment is key if you are discussing the Australian Economy.

  • The increasing trend towards casual/part time jobs
  • Misleading unemployment figures due to people being classified as emplyed if you work only 1 hour a week

Even though the question doesnt ask for it I think you should mention a bit about govt responses, just in a paragraph or two at the end

You can also add how they calculate unemployment , the formula , the participation rate.

The trends and stuff on unemployment would be good.

And for some causes of unemployment u can say the RBA was increasing the cash rate, which decreased growth... and yeahhh. u can also mention something bout inflations if u have time
