Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015.

Does anyone know when the Semester 2 timetable comes out officially?

The date 17 April 2015 has been circulating around, but not 100% sure.

Though honestly you could just jig MATH1251 lectures - the only things you really need to attend are your tutorials, your computing test and your finals. Otherwise I suggest just reading through the course notes as they have plenty of examples.

So I'm doing Actl / Comm. And as said by Photastic, next semester seems to be a 4 day timetable at a minimum. I'm probably doing ACTL1101, MATH1251, ECON1102 and ACCT1511 next semester. So after crunching the numbers, the most likely timetable for me would be 4 contact hours on Monday and Tuesday, and 3 contact hours on Wednesday and Thursday - giving a total of 14 contact hours (one less than this semester). Monday would be 10AM to 4PM with a 2 hr break. Tuesday would be 11AM to 6PM with a 3 hr break. Wednesday would be 12PM to 5PM, with two 1hr breaks. Thursday would be 3 hours straight from 11AM to 2PM. So its not too bad. And if I did want to skip MATH1251 lectures, as suggested by some, that would mean I only need to come for one lecture on Tuesday and then leave straight afterwards and on Friday, I would only need to come for one lecture as well, and then leave straight away.

At the same time, this is only one possibility of timetabling - will spend some time after the official schedule comes out playing with the numbers to get my most desirable options ready for when enrolment opens for Sem 2

29th April is when most of us will be enrolling for Semester 2 and choosing our courses and timeslots? Also, anyone able to shed some light (beyond what UNSW website says) onto the appointment system and any tips regarding it?

Do not go onto myUNSW on the day until your actual timeslot for enrolment. Otherwise you will have troubles on accessing the enrolment page and thus you need to clear cache to get into it. Makes a huge difference especially when commerce is so much more competitive in terms of obtaining slots.

Okay, so the timetable for Semester 2 is officially out. So, you can check the different timeslots, different rooms and, most importantly imo, the different lecturers.

Some things that I noted (as an actuarial student) was:

* The lecturers for MATH1251 will be Dr D Potapov and Apro T Tran. Anyone willing to share their thoughts/experiences?
* For those taking the (stupid) decision of doing FINS1613 next semester, their lecturers will be Dr KH Shim and Dr Z Chen.

MATH1251 - Thanh Tran is a good lecturer (imo) because he says function as "fanktion", as well as the fact that he can explain concepts very well (I've had him in MATH1151). Don't know anything about Potapov though.

For FINS1613 - Kyung Hwan Shim will be writing your final exam. So expect a massive buttrape. To dodge the bullet, you're better off delaying FINS1613 and doing it in semester 1 instead.

Doing MATH2121, 3 petroleum engg subjects and maybe MATH3821 (if it's worthwhile overloading that one)
