Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

A summer course doesn't sound too bad, I'll prob slot in COMP1911

What's usually on during the summer breaks anyway? Is there like takehome assignments etc. ?
Very few courses are on offer during the summer. COMP1911 is not offered in the summer.

Are there any decent and not-super intense science electives you'd recommend?
Or is it possible to jump on 5 courses during sem 2

Science electives for summer? Not many are offered to begin with: http://www.science.unsw.edu.au/current-students/summer-school

As for doing 5 courses, that's called overloading (if you do more than 24 UOC per semester). First years are not allowed to overload; there is also a WAM requirement, and ultimately up to your school to decide whether or not you are permitted.

You should make every attempt to do 4 courses this semester. Overloading isn't something to take on lightly; summer courses might not be on offer; and not sticking to 24 UOC per semester may mean you delay graduation by a semester.

Ah I see, I'll hit up UNSW tomorrow and ask them to slot me in if possible

If not, I'll prob just jump on Phys1160 or Phys1110 during summer

Oh, the joy of a competent and likeable project team. I was a scumbag and listed myself as second language english speaker so I could get less international students. I think our group of 8 has 1 or none. The circumstances are pretty lucky.

Oh fuck, I'm only on FINS1613, ACCT1501 and MATH1151 atm (I dropped PHYS1131)
Am I screwed, since I'm unable to enrol into other courses
Go with the flow and drop everything as well xD

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

when do echo lectures get uploaded?
Some of mine go up straight away. Depends on the state of echo at the time.

Not sure why people are complaining about international students, they seem pretty cool to me

In my MGMT lecture I saw five of them in front of me playing a game of LoL
It's because you haven't had your marks partially rely on others before.

It's not just an international students thing though.

It's more in relation to subjects like Commerce, Maths and Science

What I've noticed with law is people getting in with ATARs significantly below the required amount (They're really lenient with bonus points for comm/law degrees now) o_O
Back in my time you needed extra-curricular bonus points (EAP) or EAS. There were no HSC plus points.

from what I've heard 3200 is alright people over estimate the difficulty of it and get discouraged by doing so. I think I should be alright for that it looks basically like 2019. Stats so far is alright matlab is pretty interesting and useful (since we use it in pretty much every course now 2500, 3500...) so it's a pretty nice easy gentle start to it. past people who done it underestimated the difficulty and neglected the subject so I will be trying to stay on top of it (after I do the matlab quiz that is due tomrrow lel)
Just be happy you don't do the ELEC equivalent. It's actually a killer. The fail rate is real.

Lecturer said tutorial will probably take 2 hours....

glad I have that to look forward to today.

Btw, anyone got good resources for math 1131? I mean like videos online. I found only the basics of vectors on kahn academy, was hoping to find content similar to the stuff we're doing.

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

I found a good way of getting a quiet cabin on the train. Enter the last 2-3 cabins and just sit in the room with the doors. Almost no one ever sits there.

lol so much fail in the lab 2day. My demonstrator gave me an extra mark for free, and both of the people I borrowed utensils off forgot and left.

Ask them anything at all they're there for a reason
if they can't help u then they will let u know

i.e I am a mentor u can ask me about anything and everything inclusive of taboo topics such as condoms on campus, which is the best sex position, how do I hide the body I killed the other day etc etc.

what happens when it rains? where do people line up for buses and stuff?
