Hi thanks for reading my first post on these forums. =P

Ok, well basically I'm starting to get pretty nervous about my med interview coming up this thursday. I'm pretty sure I will do well in the other two sections (214 Umat, and 99.85 estimate) but I was wondering if you guys know anyone who has had these two scores or higher and not gotten in because of a terrible interview? I think I'm an alright communicator, and I have the right reasons for wanting to be a doctor, but I'm just feeling soooo laid back these days- as if I've been lulled into this false sense of hope that I'll definately get into med. Gahhh- pride before a fall aye?

So basically, after that rather long rant about my terrible complacency and arrogance - are the unsw interviews that difficult? I've heard it's quite conversation like - if you just go along with the convo, and give average-ish answers that show you're a decent person, is that good enough? Or is everyone in unsw med a wonderfully passionate public speaker? I think on a scale of 10 right now, I'd give myself a possible 7-8/10 for the interview. Is that at all good enough?

If you have any words of wisdom to bring this stuck up little yr12 crashing back down to earth, they'll be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks, and sorry about the long read. =P

Their is a good chance they could ask you a psychological question about what animal you would be, etc and why. They can also probe your background, etc and ask some personal questions, etc.

But yeah, their will be alot of typical questions, why do you want to do medicine, yourself and teamwork, how to cope with medicine/studies, what do you do in your spare time, relationship with family/friends, extracurricular activities, leadership, work-life balance, what can you contribute to UNSW, etc... You should be interviewed by a pannel of 3 or so interviewers, two faculty members and possibly another staff member or a person from the community, etc. Just don't flaunt your ego and you should be fine. Be realistic, public speaking is a huge problem for alot of students, just be confident of doing well in the interview and do your best. Other simple tips, don't fidget, tap, look around the room. Concentrate on the interview and treat the interviewers with common courtesy and respect.

Thanks for the useful tips Wooz~. =) I think I need to do a bit more self-evaluation, maybe think through some possible responses to tricky questions before my interview.

Try this for some evaluation.

May I ask you firstly why do you want to do medicne, and when did you first know you wanted to become a doctor? Also what would you like to possibly specialise in, and why aswell?

Also would you become a rural clinical if you were given a CSP position? If so or not why? If so: do you know just how chronic doctor shortages in rural and remote Australia are?

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

Please PM me if you don't want to openly discuss it, etc, i'd like to hear your response.

PMed. =) Sorry it took so long...but when you see how long the pm is, you'll understand. =P

I was going to add a warning to the pm, but apparently it would exceed the character limit if I did. ^^; So, WARNING: may cause drowsiness!
