Now that we've been offered interviews, should we be preparing for them in any way? anyone who's done an interview before, what are some main questions they ask and is training worth it??

Should I just wing the interview or actually seriously prepare? I'm not expecting to actually get into UNSW med anyway, despite the interview offer.

Yeah, I hope they don't ask these types of psychological questions again.

Dog: As it is man's best friend and often admired as a loyal human companion, etc blah, blah, blah.

Yeah, in the early day they used it to pick out egotistical people who imagined themselves to be jaguars, panthers, etc. But, yeah I don't think it works anymore, esp since everyone knows about this question and it's not that subtle saying that you imagined ur self to be a lion ie king, etc.

Or they can perceive it as you being not true to yourself and others which isn't ag reat quality if you're a doctor i reckon.

If you want the job that much, you'll know you'll get it - confidence anyone?

The UNSW med interview is weird and not like any of the other universities

They ask you questions about you as a person, you growing up, your friends, your parents, your grandparents and your relationships with them, what you got out of school, who your role models were.

You will sit there thinking 'which animal do i identify with?'

and you will come out thinking 'they know me, but is this a good thing or a bad thing?'

Be prepared to talk about yourself, and be open. Don't try to be something you think they want, because you won't be able to predict it. Don't close down and don't try to keep your distance.

I think its worthwhile writing down a list of experiences and what qualities they show in you so you can remember them easily in the interview. Like teamwork, communicating, leadership, awareness of social and cultural issues, dealing with difficult situations, volunteering, evidence of interest in medicine that sort of thing.

I wouldn't recommend extensive preparation because you don't know what they're looking for. I went through the interview and did well and I still don't know what they're looking for. I know people who cried and got through, I know people who wore jeans and sketchers and got in.

and cats do make the best doctors for your information :p

The giant pangolin goes down well (unique, docile and occasionally bipedal).

It's probably an urban myth, but some claim that the interviewers asked "If you were a type of bread what would you be, and why?"
