Yeah I have a few friends coming from Maq who do law to borrow books from the UNSW library.

Well as for books, I remember hearing a few people complaining about how hard it is to find books - that their always missing our out etc. I personally have never had that experience myself though.

Usyd is definately better. if you have a habit like i do of leaving assignments late its definately worth having a usyd library card or even if you don't leave them late at least you get a variety of books. I think its about $50 a year to get a usyd library card or do a subject their and you get one anyway!

The UNSW library is pretty bad.

Compare the medical libraries:
USyd has a giant stand alone medical library, that is about 1/4th the size of the
entire UNSW library.

UNSW has a pathetic section.

However, the difference in the two universities is not as great as the difference in facilities would suggest.

UNSW is only slightly ( but definitely ) inferior to USyd.

However, if you want to see a really pathetic library, you should have a look at Macquarie ! I was there yesterday, looking for a book by Dworkin. Their law section is so seriously sad.....

You really do a good job of mamking an idiot of yourself.

UNSW has an excellent three level medical library that is separate. It needs this because of its large undergrad med program. I would hardly call a full three levels pathetic. Perhaps you didn't look upstairs?

UNSW also has biggest law library in Australia.

Overall however unsw Library is not as big as usyd. In fact usyd is the biggest in thew southern hemisphere and aces all universities for arts and social science books. Overall i think usyd has around 5 million and unsw has around 2.5 million.

From my experience (im a member of both) unsw has the same books as usyd. It simply has more copies.

But yes. Maqu law section simply sad.

My gf goes to USyd and does Arts, and she always comes to UNSW library to borrow books because there simply isn't enough copies for what she needs.

Similarly, I use her card to borrow books I can't find at UNSW

Essentially the same books, although Usyd has a greater No of copies, proportional to their student numbers(give or take).

^ They are certainly allowed to read them AT that specific library. In order to borrow them, I think you need to have a card. I'm not sure how you procure one, besides doing some units or a course at that university.

It costs about $50 a year for people to borrow from another university's library. One of my colleagues is a student at UNSW, but makes use of the far superior Conservatorium library all the time. To her, the $50 was worth it.
