This was the 2008 HSC question so have a look at the notes from the marking centre http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.a...df_doc/english-standard-advanced-notes-08.pdf
Also, depending on your related text, develop some thesis statements that you can apply your texts to, but more of your points should be with your side that you are arguing so consider that to.
Examples could include:
- A strong human spirit is essential for overcoming obstacles.......
- A strong human spirit allows individuals to discover aspects of themselves/the world around them
In your disagree statement you could mention other aspects essential to a journey other than a strong human spirit

Thanks for the examples, in my response I need to refer to The Book Thief (book) and Life of Pi (movie).

So now you'll need to find some quotes and techniques from those texts that support those ideas.

In the Book Thief a good example would be to use Liesel and her journey...........so find quotes from her at the start and towards the end which show her growth through contrast........for example as she discovers the power of words her understanding of the world around her is shaped. Her strong human spirit is fueled as a result of the events around her...As for introduction start with a thesis statement and you can briefly explain it/elaborate. Then introduce your texts and address them to the question. Then sum up by stating that the literary/visual techniques (add your argument so 'explicitly demonstrate' that a strong human spirit is essential....).

1. Direction with question - general outline --> Introduce journey --> use keywords/synonyms --> clear restatement

2. Thesis --> give depth to outline, sum up argument

3. Introduction of texts --> have description of text that sums up, e.g Zusak's historical metafictional novel The Book Thief (bolded is description of text)

4. Focal points --> max two

Good luck :)
Thanks mate!

"If one begins a journey with a strong human spirit, this lessens the potential for the development they can undergo as a result of the journey."

something like that anyway
