Hi everyone,

I am in year 10 at a Catholic College in NSW. I am choosing my subjects for next year. I have been told by my school to choose 13 units, but shouldn't I be allowed to choose 12 units in year 11 [as per Board of Studies]?

Please help I am really stuck as I don't understand why I am required to keep 13 units instead of 12 units.

I appreciate your help

:)

Thanks

Not sure why you are required to have 13 units. Maybe because it is compulsory for you to study SOR?

ur not technically, there's nothing on bostes that says u have to take 13u instead of 12 for prelim.
but some schools go a bit retard over units.

this could be for a number of reasons, ur school might be encouraging everyone to take on board 13 units so more classes go forth - since u often need a minimum of x amount of students for a class to run, might just be because ur school has a history of kids regreting subject choices (im joking, but u get the drift) etc
ik someone who was forced to take 14 units in yr 11 because the school mandated english ext 1.

if u really wanted and if u had a semi-legit reason u could prolly drop down to 12 units

13 u not really a biggie tho it's just 4 more contact hours (i think) per fortnight

English Ext1... that sounds like a nightmare.

Hi All,

Thank you for your responses.

My brother went to the same school as me [finished his hsc 4 years ago] and he only did 12 units in year 11 and then 10units in year 12.

Yes I am required to take a religion subject as I am in a catholic school.

However, my main concern is that if the minimum units required is 12 units in year 11 by BOSTES, can my school set their own rules in making students do 13 units instead of 12?

Thanks for your help :)

Hey there :)
You are allowed to take 13 units. Since most likely religion is compulsory at your school (as it is in many Catholic/ Religion based Schools), you have no choice but to do 13. BOSTES does not require anyone to take 13 units (the minimum is 12) however you are allowed to go beyond that.

I used to do 13 units back in Year 11.... TT---TT HAHAHA
