My Maths teacher was saying something about 30% of year 11 maths counts towards the HSC

Is this true?

OR

Can 30% of the work we do in year be tested in the HSC?

please any comments

Thanks!

i believe it's 30% of the content we learn in year 11 can be tested in the HSC

no year 11 marks count toward the HSC

I will clarify this:

No result in Year 11 will count for your HSC. (If it did, I would have got like 80s...for my HSC results LOL)

However, what your teacher is talking about is:

30% of the CONTENTS of Year 11 maths (i.e. what you learn) can be tested in HSC.

I've got a half-yearly exam on Wednesday that is testing everything from prelim as well as all the Year 12 work we've covered.

It may test you from everything but it doesn't necessarily cover everything.

This is the same thing basically.

In HSC, you can get any question from any topic from year 11 to year 12. But ONLY 30% of HSC will be based on Year 11 while the rest (i.e. 70%) is from Year 12.

Geez, leave him alone.

Don't get in his way of learning. It's important to know earlier than later.

From the syllabus [http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/maths_assess_curr_info.pdf]

Assessment

No more than 20% of the Mathematics assessment is to be based on the Preliminary course.

School assessment for the Mathematics Extension 1 HSC course can be based on the whole of the Mathematics Extension 1 course (Preliminary and HSC courses).

Examinations

Mathematics and Mathematics Extension 1

No more than the equivalent of two questions will be based on the Preliminary course.

I've been "chilling" for the last 10-12 years or so of my schooling.. time to nail it now, regarding half yearlies they start Monday (30/03/09) - week 10, 2unit Maths exam is thursday, and 3unit is the following tuesday.

Thank you Namu :)

roughly 30% of the work you do in preliminary can be assessed in the HSC, as in, the concepts can be brought up again.

saying that; given you want to do 4U maths it doesn't really affect you.
