somebody never heard of checks and balances in the US government system. Government isnt really shut down, it just means federal/national parks/tourist sites are closed. all other essential services are still up and running.

it's not just national parks and museums. the bureaucracy is completely shut down, and plenty of essential services are not up and running, including the CDC, CSB, FCC, and IRS. it's a big deal for a lot of people doing a lot of important things (and a lot of unimportant people doing unimportant things).

sure blame the republicans when the democrats wouldn't even show up to negotiate obamafail because they're so insistent on forcing it through without any amendment (resulting in the failure to pass the budget and subsequent govt shutdown)
