UWS LAW, a few questions (1 Viewer)

so for the first semester (autumn 2010), there's 4 subjects as a guide.

Introduction to Law
Torts Law
Buisness Academic Skills and
Accounting Information for Managers


so from the timetables, do i pick one class to go to each week?
one for each subject?

whats the difference between a lecture, seminar A, tutorial and a workshop?

are they all considered 'classes'?
do i have to go to each of them once a week?

also, for UWS @ Parramatta,
which are the lecturer class' to be in, and which are those to avoid?

tutorial registration starts on a date i think 18th of feb

but yeh. the timetable thing is tripping me out too cos we can see wen all the classes are on platform web.

Yes, you pick one lecture, tutorial, workshop, seminar, lab etc. timeslot for each subject. You need to pick one of each type of class. You'll need to register for classes when each school opens for tute reg (16th-19th feb), dates and times for each school are here:

Attendance at lectures, tutorials, workshops etc really depends on the subject. Most tutorials are compulsory with absent fails given for less than 80% attendance rate (without medical certificate). Lectures are more likely to be optional, although there are lectures which take attendance too. It's best to attend everything. Read your unit outline when you get it for specific attendance requirements for each subject.

This is probably a stupid question, but how exactly do they track your attendance? Do you have to sign in before you go in lectures/tutorials?

Tutorials will either have a roll call, or pass around an attendance sheet you need to sign. In the (few) compulsory lectures I've had, they'd pass around a sheet to sign too, although it may be conducted differently dependent on the course.

there's 2 lectures, and quite a number of workshops.
so you only go to the one workshop?
i'd assume there's only like 10 students per workshop session?

well all of them actually,
they're from weeks 10-16, and 18-23.
so assuming 16-18 (2 weeks) is a holiday, or stuvac,
and thats 11 weeks (13 in a semester)
when exactly does week 10 start?

No worries

Yes, you'd only go to the one workshop (it's like a tutorial). Looks like you only attend one lecture too, and they're not every week, awesome! (check your unit outline when you get it of course to make sure)

You're right about the weeks, week 17 will be STUVAC. UWS has this funny system where they count their semester according to what week it is in the year. So week 10 is in reality week 1 of semester, which starts from March 1.

by the way, do you work for UWS?

also,
who are some lecturers/professors to avoid, at Parramatta?

ie. speak with a heavy accent, thus hard to understand,
or speaks in a monotone and makes what should be interesting - boring, or is not a very nice person

Hah, I wish! UWS would probably pay better than my current job in retail.

Oooh, I wouldn't have a clue with that one, I've only ever studied at Penrith in different faculties. Maybe some law students could suggest who's a good lecturer?

what would the best way be to set out the timetable?

should i cram it all into 2 or 3 days at uni?
or spread it out so im on campus most days of the week?

I guess it really depends on how easily you can motivate yourself to go and if you like having breaks between classes to study/chill out or not. I like to squish my timetable into 3 days and have the other free days to do readings/assignments/work.

The danger of having a squished timetable though is if you're ill on one day, you miss a lot more work than if your timetable is spread out. But if you spread your timetable out too much, you may become apathetic about only going in for one or two hours (especially for lectures).
