Hi all, i lived with 2 girls who did Vet Science last year, one second and one first year. They both loved the course but were constantly doing assignments and studying for exams. But if you are passionate then thats the way to go. One of the assessment the first yr girl had was identifying like 50 different types of grass or something! Lol. From what i can gather there is lots of practical work including disections of horses, sheep etc etc, preg testing cows, studying embryos that kinda stuff. Hope you guys get in, all the best!

Vet Sci is a very demanding course. If you understand that a medicine course like the MBBS only studies one physiological and physical system, well in Vet Sci you have to learn the skills to treat a whole range of physiological and physical systems. MBBS graduates also choose to specialise (ie. surgeon, pathologist, endocrinologist, dermatologist etc, even a dentist), whereas veterinarians often have to learn the skills to adapt in all kinds of medical situations. Sounds tough but veterinarians also notoriously have higher job satisfaction than human medical practitioners, which says a lot.

Did you end up getting in?

Plus, do you get the 5 mark regional bonus with this course?

Yes, all CSU courses get the 5 mark bonus. Which is good, 85 here i come!!
So i was wondering if anyone who did get an interview could just give an over view of how it went and what they did to get the interview? What sorts of questions they ask, etc, oh and what sorts of people are on the panel. I heard some local vets were sometimes on it?

I got an interview! I had it last week and it was actually not too bad, much better than what I was expecting.

There were 357 applications, 160 chosen for interviews and there are only 60 places to be offered.

Here's hoping I'm one of those 60!

Just out of interest, does anyone know if Australia is short of vets? Just wanting to put this in context, with the number of people wanting to get into the courses and so few relative places available.

Yeah, it doesn't really seem fair. But I assume that in the future when funding increases and they expand their facilities they'll increase the number of places, atleast I know that's what JCU plans so I would assume CSU is thinking along the same lines.

Like everything else there is a severe shortage of vets in that little insignificant part of Australia in between Sydney and Perth
