Lol this whole forum is just bringing to painful attention the things I should have said... but didn't.

I said that it was a consequence of the journey, as opposed to a prerequisite. Hope that's alright. =)

Soon as I read it I thought there's no way I could possibly agree with it as much as I tried, having learnt NEVER to disagree with the Q.

I agree with most above, to me it's clearly not essential, or even necessary. The whole nature of the journey is that is it results in change/personal/growth/strengthened mind+body+spirt. A pre-existing one surely isn't needed, imo anyway.

my thesis was that it was true in some circumstances but not others.

Clearly it is not up for you to decide yourslef to support the statement or not.

You MUST let whatever is in your texts decide your thesis.

Say hello to band 1 if you just blindly agreed or disagreed, based on impluse.

Was it fine to agree with it so long as you supported it?

Yes, you just have to take a line of arguement and then talk about how the texts lead you to this understanding,

I agreed. My focus was physical, I think it'd be suicide to disagree..
But that's really only because all of my texts did actually require a strong human spirit..
And I think the characters in all of Skrzynecki's poems required strong human spirit..in different ways...but it's definitely there

I dunno, i screwed up the other sections...I don't see why this one should be different..lol.

If you did completely opposite to me you'll probably get full marks..lol

lol of course.

you could take either a disagree or agree stance... and still score 15/15 if you susbstantiated your arguments with valid and detailed reference to the text, language features... integrated it into a sophisticated response etc etc. and adressed the question directly.

didn't your english teacher ever tell you that you never disagree/never criticise a text??

if it's included in the exam it means that it's a "fantastic" text/question, so you just set about proving how fantastic it is

I agreed. Went on about the Romantic notion of how the human spirit and the imagination are intrinsically linked or something. Worked really well for Coleridge, I don't think I really talked about my related texts that well in relation to the question. But I don't care anymore. Never again!

Yeah it would be alright if you disagreed, i'm just not smart enough to think of a good reason to disagree with the statement. I just wrote the arguments that i had learnt beforehand and then said 'this is why you need a strong human spirit' even though it didn't really make sense.

I said that in P.S case, the immigrants do not need a strong human spirit when they are undertaking their journey but in my related text Castaway, Chuck needs a strong human spirit to survive.. etc.. don't know if its right lol.

So I said it some cases it is and some it isn't.. but oh well..
dude im pretty sure skrzyneckis poems were all about human spirit.

but yeah my tutor said disagreeing is one of the best things to earn marks IF YOU CAN BACK IT UP! which i did quite well.

so all those people saying you have to agree, ur just naive.
