Wouldn't be doing the law bit for his parents? Commerce isn't prestigious at all...Raginsheep said:He's Asian.....I'm guessing the commerce bit is just to satsify his parents
I never said IB was the only option for Comm/Law students. It is however one of the most desired career paths for Com/Law students, and a vast majority of Com/Law students apply to investment banks for graduate jobs._dhj_ said:How so? I think you will find that the most desired career path for any combination with a law degree is a legal career path. The second degree is compulsory for undergrad law students at most universities.mr_shittles said:I never said IB was the only option for Comm/Law students. You could be a toilet cleaner._dhj_ said:How so? Investment banking isn't the only option Comm/Law supposedly opens up.
My guess would be Commerce is the safe/secure option which isn't so risky- hence that for the parents.velox said:Wouldn't be doing the law bit for his parents? Commerce isn't prestigious at all...
Couldn't have said it better myself.Minai said:It all counts for shit if someone does Com/Law for the parents, and ends up hating the job they land...
True. My parents kicked me outta the house when i said i wanted to do commerce. < 3 asian parents.velox said:Wouldn't be doing the law bit for his parents? Commerce isn't prestigious at all...
You have higher potential earnings by doing Commerce than say Medicine, your parents make no sense.Monstar said:True. My parents kicked me outta the house when i said i wanted to do commerce. < 3 asian parents.
Asian parents go by potential earnings as a measure of success ?ditto. said:You have higher potential earnings by doing Commerce than say Medicine, your parents make no sense.
Yeah they do, I did a survey on it once.velox said:Asian parents go by potential earnings as a measure of success ?
Medicine > Commerce
0.1 % of landing an awesome commerce job paying very well.
Medicine, you're guaranteed a job, and even the 'lowly' GP registrars get $110/hour. (not that I think they are lowly, but misguided people on this forum do).
I disagree. Medicine may pay more than commerce on average, for low level/graduate jobs, but the top say 10th percentile of medical practitioners will never reach the levels that the top 10th percentile of people in commerce/business fields reach. Whens the last time a medico was paid 120 million bonus? or even a 12 million bonus? And not just Bankers and Traders. Theres the 700K+ average salary of audit partners, the millions of CFOs and the high 6ers of the Controllers. I think that the mean salary of commerce jobs may be lower, but the variance is very very large compared to med.velox said:Asian parents go by potential earnings as a measure of success ?
