two things

1. i was looking at STANSW test, q11 multi choice
"After the discovery of cathode rays, study of the rays produced debate as to whether they were electromagnetic waves or streams of particles. The experiment that collected convincing evidence to resolve this debate was performed by which of the follwoing scientists
a)hertz
b)thomson
c)crookes
d)planck

i thought it was thomson coz of his cathode rays tube tests, but they say its hertz

2. after they concluded that electromagnetic waves were partciles, in quantum to quarks, we've got the wave particle duality thing going. wats up wit that

help would be much appreciated

the electron can act as a wave and a particle.

I did the same Q and i didnt think it was hertz either, hertz and nothing to do with catchode rays, did he?

My book says Thomson.

The charge mass ratio is obvious anyway, it would be undefined if it was EM waves.

Both EM waves and Particles have wave particle duality.

Generally:
Particles interact with Particles in a particle fashion.
EM waves interact with Particles in a particle fashion.
EM waves interact with EM waves in a wave fashion.

Hertz studied electromagnetic waves, particularly lradio, and accidently the photoelectric effect not cathode rays.
