i have no idea wat i wanna do when i finish my HSC!!!

.... staying at school would be nice... being spoon fed by teachers..home cooked meals including vegetables, not just uni rice.... kitchen appliances and household bills i dont have to pay for.... living at home for free lol... ahhh these are the days... but

... when is everyone starting to apply for uni?.... i dont know where i want to go... or if i even want to go at all.... i heard that if you dont apply for uni now and defer for a year its really hard to get into uni when your a mature age student..??

aaaaggghhh so confusing.... i have no idea what i want to do which kind of doesnt motivate me to even try and do well at school. im
19/37 in eng adv
34/74 in gen maths (not great i kno)
3/24 in legal studies
5/18 in food tech
and 19/27 in bio..... i know i could be doing so much better but i dont think i need a UAI?

.... does anyone else have this problem... and those of you whom are older and *wiser* .. maybe a little bit of advice....

do i have to know wat i want to do now....... should i consider applying for uni..

oh and is it really really super important to have a good UAI to get into UNI???

...im gunnin for a UAI of 70 lol..... i think my family would all die from strokes if i got 80 or above..

anyone else have this feeling?

Your university course selection form will arrive sometime in August. So you have at most 2 months to make up your mind...

On the contrary, she has until early January to make up her mind what course she wants to do.

Do a Bachelor or Arts and worry about you employability later on. In my sociology tute, _everybody_ is doing a BA because they have no idea about what they actually want to do. Its the perfect way of putting of any important decision making.

My advice would be to think about the things that you love to do, even hobbies and so forth, then have a look around to see if you'd be interested in making a career out of it, and what Uni courses might be offered in relation to it.

If not, as the others have said, apply for some general degrees and scholarships. If you decide that when the times comes, if you've been accepted, to defer, the option is still there later on.

If you're not keen on the idea of Uni, I would still suggest applying as a buffer, then defer when the offers come out and go travelling, work, take a year off. Get some experience behind you - you never know, you might stumble upon a potential career that way.

Best first step is to talk to your careers teacher.

Do what you like.

Not cause what people tell you to do, or what makes the most money, or what has lots of prestige

If you do what you like, you will have fun at work.

As for me, im still deciding what to do.
Currently im just working and getting some money. :)

Just do well at school in case you wish to do a degree at uni. Good marks/UAI are a good backup. And like Templar said, you have until January to decide what course you want to do.

Why are so many people recommending wasting time and money going to uni if someone has no idea about what they want to do?

If u don't feel uni is the best option for you atm; go out, enjoy life, earn some cash and then figure out the rest of your life.

Try a gap year perhaps? A couple of my friends didn't know what to do out of high school so they went overseas (england, canada, ireland) and worked or helped out at a school or a camp or something like that for a year. Working full time is another thing to do i suppose.

I reckon if you really don't know what to do there's no point wasting time and money changing courses midway through uni. (that being said, if you have a very general idea of what you want to do, an arts or science course will give you a very wide variety of subjects, and those broad first year subjects can help you into other degrees down the track)
