ive owned an alfa for 2 years now

maintenance isnt actually pretty average, and if anything it might be cheaper, since the alfa specialists are really honest, not much more than any other car, not really sure about repairs, but if you have insurance it shouldnt matter
Repairs will kill your life. It depends what kind of repairs, i'm not just talking about if someone else hits you.
Insurance doesn't cover mechanical faults. This is why I'd recommend buying second hand from a dealer.

- they're more likely to do you a deal
- they only take second hand cars that are good quality (this is why car yards have shit cars and dealers have good second hand cars)
- you'll probably get a warranty

After ownership for 2 years, Ive had one problem, my airbag light was on.

I took it to Kmart tyre and auto when i had a minor service and asked them about it: "oh yeah we need to replace this replace that rewire everything" and quoted me for $500, i said no, charged me $300 for a minor service + inspection , the advertised price was $150 or something, but it includes like nothing if you read the fine print

next service took it to a specialist, max oddi, and he was like "oh it looks like someone bumped into you, and now the sensor is detecting something" , took my bumper off, fixed it for free with my service, charged me $300 for a minor service + inspection
mate... i got a full tune/service on my car (replaced points, tuned carbies, fixed point timing, a couple of new bits on the choke/carbie, tightened screw etc) cost me 84 dollars...
edit: never go to kmart tyre and auto. never. they rip you off like there's no tomorrow. Find an old, no name mechanic and make friends with him.
Or learn to do some stuff yourself? i dunno.... shit's expensive.

those risks are associated with owning any car. though keep in mind it is a car built by fiat in 2006.

id rather something interesting rather than a boring honda

Preaching to the choir about wanting something interesting.
I have a 1974 mini panel van. Reppin' this bitch.

edit: yeah Hondas are old people cars (except for preludes etc. that young hooligans hoon around in *shakes fist* they're hot)

that is fairly logical considering european cars generally cost more to make and use more expensive parts

like if you compare the repair costs of a HSV with a 5 series i bet they'll be pretty similar

I dunno, man...

eh, whatever. yet again a BoS thread has gone off topic.
My point was, buy from a dealer if you're going to buy a second hand, european car (or any second hand car, really)

Ok, my question is, i want a BMW 335i coupe, or should i just aim to save for a 325i coupe? Is there really any difference aside from engine size/torque/hp and is it worth the extra money?

id imagine you get larger rims, a lower ride height and maybe a few more options thrown in

i hear the 135/335 guys have fuel pump problems

but yes it is worth the money. Picture this, some bogan from coffs harbour in their falcodore is revving at your 335 at the lights, rolling back and forth. money well spent?

Are you on P's or fulls? Remember turbo = fulls only. If new, the price difference will be more like $95k vs. $120k driveaway. If used, you'd be looking at $55 vs. $70k.

Don't forget there's different trmi/extras, and if you're lucky you'll get one off someone who optioned it up. Only downside is 335i's are more performance oriented which means there's a higher chance it's been thrashed whereas 325i's tend to be bought by normal(ish) people. They both look epic, but yeh, keep that in mind.

ps. My pricing is based on my recollection when I surfed the net looking at this about half a year ago before new 3 series came out.

Fair enough but if the general mood of the forum hasn't made you realise, you're a very fortunate and lucky person. I can think of plenty of adults who would struggle to get $80k let alone be able to spend it on a car.

That being said, I sincerely hope your parents weren't saps and paid $80k for a 370z given that at launch, even in automatic, it was low $70's driveaway for the coupe and now has dropped to mid $60's driveaway. Add $10k for the convertible.
Yeaah kinda aware of that.. But Thank you i guess, i mean maybe because i've grown up like this it isn't a big deal but hey i guess i am hence everyones reaction true? :)

Just know that people may take your attitude as an insult, even if you don't mean it that way. The fact that your parents can just go out and buy a car that is worth much more than I make per year... Is unsettling. To me and others.
But meh. It's money.

People get jealous... So what? Just be careful or you'll always be defending yourself - especially on these forums.
It's not that I have an attitude I just got sick of expalining myslef and truely couldn't come to an understanding why it was a big deal? hmm i see.. Thanks i guess? :)

^just get some perspective up ya and appreciate what you've got. 'sall i'm sayin.
Go to cambodia and give someone $5AUD and see how they react. That'll make you shake in your Burberry boots.

new goal: work a zillion hours at da gym/hospital/whatever and buy a BMW 335i coupe in 5 years. (optioned to get the number removed... people will think it's an M3 heheheheh trollface.jpg)
