I'm VP of the Liberal Club, so obviously any information in this post will be biased, but:
- If you're pro VSU, and generally believe that the Howard government would do a better job than a Labor government, join the Liberals. We're a good mix of conservatives and classical liberals, so there's always a healthy amount of debate. Events include drinks nights, fortnightly general meetings (where we discuss policy, future events and upcoming campaigns), as well as campaigns. In the case of the latter you can be as involved as you want to be, including running for positions, designing posters, researching lecture bash timetables etc. Don't be concerned about propagandising either, as there are very few members who toe the party line to the letter anyway.
- The ALP Club (i.e. Labor right) are rather small, with only about 5 or 6 people regularly attending their meetings (as far as I've seen). Their stances are generally in line with the federal labor party.
- The Labor Club (Labor left) are by far the largest political grouping on campus, they are a combination of feminists, queers, free education activists, pro unionists etc. Arguably closer to the Greens than the federal ALP.
