What course should I enrol in at uni? (1 Viewer)

At the moment I'm currently considering a double degree in Mech Eng/Commerce(Actuary) or Psychology at UNSW.
All relevant info about me:
I really enjoy Math and Phys.
I hate English.
Currently Yr11@Sydney Boys High
Current Subjects: MA3u, ENG3u, Eco, Phys and Chem
I'm interested in Engineering because my father has been a full time academic staff member at UNSW in the Faculty of Engineering for over 20 years.
I'm interested in Actuary because of its competitive renumeration and the mathematics employed in the field.
I'm interested in Psychology because the human mind fascinates me.
Ranked in top 30% (for the half yearly) for all subjects except English.
Ranked 75th percentile in English.
Ranked 60/210ish overall (in my year for the half yearly).
As a result, expecting ATAR of 97-98 (taking for granted) or if I really focus, 99+.
Not interested in Law or Med at ALL.
Only considering UNSW and USyd. Preferably UNSW.
Considering PhD. in Eng, if I do well (1st class Honours)
I know I will have to do a post grad in Psychology If I want employment.
side note: never did tutoring, never will and strongly disapprove of it (don't know if that's relevant or not)
I was hoping that some of you could give me advice on what course I should undertake based on your own experiences and what you know about me from what I have written above. The hard part for me is choosing between the two.

Ask your dad what he thinks of Engineering and you doing it. By the way what's his name? Just out of curiousity.

If you wish to do psychology, you can do it under science as a major, along with engineering.

Imo, none. You should only be doing the course you want to do and the one you are passionate about/interested in. Too many people pursue degrees that they think will bring them wealth/status and hate it because it just doesn't interest them in the slightest.

It seems as though you are deadset on engineering, and as tommykins said, you can do psych through science. A quick google of the specialised b pysch degree and it says you have to maintain a 70+ average in all your psych units, so you would have to be pretty dedicated to maintaining that.

Although i'm sure there are further qualifications on top of the psych major if you go through science and want to pursue that further as a career path if you do it combined with engineering.

Couldn't agree more, I know people in my year that want to go for Med who have no genuine appreciation of the discipline, but only aspire to do it because of pressure from their parents or believing that doing it will elevate their status somehow.

I don't think it would be too hard since I have a interest in it and am prepared to put in the effort demanded of me.
At the moment the best option looks like a combined BE / BSc but I'm still feeling reluctant to compromise.
I suppose remuneration does come into account somewhat, but I guess that if I found enough job satisfaction it wouldn't matter too much.
