So, what do people think? I'm just curious for ideas. :)

I find just reading it a few times, then going away, and coming back and trying to see how much I can remember without reading off the page word for word helps.

Then once I have that mastered, getting up and attempting to 'perform' to it helps - I find having a movement or action attached to particular lines helps a lot!!!

There are lots of ways to memorise a monolouge it usually depends on personal preference. You can try repeating it over and over or memorising but i find with that you will devolp more of a reading like or that horriable false acting voice that says im a drone and just spit out lines when asked.

My best advice is really analyse your monolouge get to know your character and the context of your monolouge that way if you forget the lines on the day you will know that character and the scene so well you will know what to do. So go crazy marking up your script writing charater analysis scene plot etc. It is a method that works for me and some of the greatest actors of all times have used it.

At our regional drama camp last year, one of the tutors did an HSC Monologue workshop. He got us to choose a monologue he had, then got us to divide them up into different parts. He told us to imagine each part 'painted' a different color, add a new emotion and use different voices. We had to to do 2-3 for each section.

Not only was it easier to memorise the monolgue, but it was an excellent way to work on characterisation, pronunciation and physicality.

Try writing it out longhand without looking at the script as well as making notes of your script like you would for a speech. I find this helps
