I was wandering, for first timers to the gym, what do you need to take?

A towel to wipe your filthy fucking sweat off the equipment.

Deo to cover up your hideous stench.

Urgh, that's gross (the sweat all over the machines that is). Yuck, but yeah, I figured deo and a towel would be absolutely neccessary.

when i go to the gym, i take:

+ bottle of water
+ 2 towel - a hand towel and a bath towel
+ something to change out of gym clothes
+ thongs (nobody want's to catch athletes foot when they use the showers)
+ shampoo + conditioner
+ soap
+ anti-perspirant/ deoderant
+ a pair of socks

depends how far from home you are and if you are rushing off to work etc. after your gym session..

i usually just go straight home and have a shower then - saves packing a towel etc.. but most gyms will have showers if you wish to use them

Is this just hyperbole or has this really happened to you because that's actually quite disturbing?

Anyway, so like, these machines that everyone is dripping sweat over, ummm, has anyone ever caught like a fungal infection or anything from them?

i just take water and a towel. dont have a shower unless its necessary, unless you dont mind not being in privacy.. lol about the fungal infection comment. they do clean the machines quite regularly.

no, but at my gym anyway, everyone that has showers fully gets dressed in the open area where anyone can just walk in. ive walked in on old ladies powdering their...special places

I take:

- Water
- Towel
- Straps
- Belt
- Post-workout shake
- Programme

I prefer to have water during the workout. Although, I add sodium to my post-workout shake to replenish that which is lost.

Sometimes a spare towel and change of clothes if I want to shower, my gym has little cubicles with racks for clothes in it.
