Personally I dont see intelligence as an important factor, I think personality traits are the most important because they are able to effectively interact and empathize with patients. Which in all honesty to me is important just as much as knowing specific facts etc.

Alot of things:
  • Good communication skills: which is the main quality that seperates the good from the bad in the interviews. In a recent survey by NSWHealth taken by over 80,000 respondants, over 75% of people said that this is the most important skill a doctor should have.
  • Team leadership: as a doctor has to manage a professional Health management team, in the treatment of his/her patients.
  • Team working skills: as doctors have to work with various professionals, consultants, other specialists, order tests, deal constantly and consult with nurses, etc.
  • Empahty: ^ previous post
  • Commitment/dedication: as medicine is often a life-long career path.
  • Confident: in what they do, themselves
  • Displays an understanding of diversity and religion.
  • Is a ready source of advice and support
  • Listens to you and your opinion.
  • Explains things in words you can understang.
  • Takes time to answer your questions.
  • Makes you feel comfortable
[*]Respects you, as well as your family members
The list is endless.
