Why is from 2001-2018 is this a old subject?
Senior Science is a subject that is no longer running. According to NESA (previously known as BOSTES), this is what this course entailed:

The study of Senior Science Stage 6 provides students with a contemporary and coherent understanding of some of the basic laws, theories and principles of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth and Environmental Science and their application. It includes an examination of the technology that uses these laws, theories and principles and the impact of this science and technology on society. It reflects the interdisciplinary nature of science with a focus on the interdependence of science, technology and society.

Further information about when it was discontinued and the implications of this course being discontinued:

The course "Senior Science" was discontinued as of October 2018. The reformed syllabus involved changes that are a move towards compulsory English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Investigating Science and Science Extension in the future.

I hope this helps! :D

It sounds similar to the current science extension course.

It was definitely similar in the sense that students who had a high interest in science could take this subject. However, it is considered to be quite different content-wise.

One of the major differences between Senior Science and Science Extension is that Science Extension requires the completion of a Scientific Research Report (SRP), which is something that was not included in the Senior Science course. Another difference is that Senior Science is taken in both year 11 and 12 (Preliminary and HSC course), whereas Science Extension is only taken in year 12 (HSC course). Another major difference between the 2 subjects is that the modules for Science Extension aim to prepare you for completing your SRP, whereas the Senior Science modules cover actual scientific content.

Did senior science include content from biology. So if you took it, it would help with bio and vice versa.
Since investigating science and science extension don’t contain actual content from the other sciences, Just random scientific stuff.
Yep! As I mentioned above, Biology is one of the areas that the Senior Science course covered

The study of Senior Science Stage 6 provides students with a contemporary and coherent understanding of some of the basic laws, theories and principles of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth and Environmental Science and their application.
The modules for Senior Science were as follows:

Preliminary Course:

8.1 Senior Science Skills
8.2 Water for Living
8.3 Plants
8.4 Humans at Work
8.5 Local Environment

As you can see, some of those modules might have been relevant to Biology, particularly 8.3.

HSC Course:

9.1 Senior Science Skills
9.2 Lifestyle Chemistry
9.3 Medical Technology - Bionics
9.4 Information Systems
9.5 Option - Polymers
9.6 Option - Preservatives and Additives
9.7 Option - Pharmaceuticals
9.8 Option - Disasters
9.9 Option - Space Science

The same applies here. In this case, we can clearly see that concepts relevant to Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science and Physics are also covered.

Senior science is a ghost of christmas past. It used to be super basic like yr 10 stuff (i.e. mayonnaise is an emulsion etc).
The rule for senior science was that either:
a) You chose it as your only science in year 11
b) You downgrade to it from chem/phys/bio/earth in year 12.
A certain agricultural school used to do it because it gave them lots of state ranks. However, it was rarely counted in the HSC aggregates since it scaled so poorly lol
