um, my school wasn't even on the list, but there was a handful that made it to uni
although i can't say my UAI was too flashy, i know that if i worked through the whole year instead of the 2weeks before the trials, i know i would've gotten a heaps better UAI

you shouldn't let school ranking worry you too much
that has just lifted my spirts gradually

Afaik, the teachers at JRAHS are nothing special. Remember that it's a state school, and state schools often receive the early uni graduates as opposed to the experienced teachers who have PhDs and were former uni lecturers...you have to pay $15 000 a year to have that privilege.

Given the enormous amount of pressure that JRAHSers are under, as well as the highly stringent selection criteria, you wouldn't want to perform poorly at that school.

lol. I heard this story where this guy just had recently entered Ruse. And, when he was being shown around by some students, they pointed to a lonely guy and said "Dont talk to him, he got 10/50 for his maths test." LOL. Althoguh I doubt the authenticity of the story, it still made me laugh. Just imagine....

I think James Ruse Agricultural High School is usually on top because:
- The students are all selective.
- The best students in the state were selected in the beginning.
- Nearly everyone accelerates in a subject or two, and consequently they have more time to concentrate on other subjects.
- The competition is fierce. Nobody wants to be humiliated and end up at the bottom. Peer pressure expects people to have high marks/ranks.
- The talented students may help other talented students who are below them.
- The expected standards at the school are very high and that's why their exam papers are challenging.
- Most of the marks are squashed up at the top end in the HSC. The average is really high and the range of marks is very low. A student may move up a few extra ranks with a lucky guess where extra marks can be gained. This is probably evident in the moderating process in the school.

They actually don't, Ruse papers are fairly easy, at least for maths.

i've done it when i was in high school

i wouldn't say it is "hard"
it requires a lot more thinking than your typical aust high school maths test

true. the more latter (i.e. 90s) papers required more thinking. but as all papers somehow tend to, get a lot easier (exception to grammar)

any RUSians here?

Yeah, i do kinda agree with that. I've done a few of their past trial hsc exam papers for 3unit maths and it isn't as hard as i expect it would be.
It's probably just above the standard of any other school exam..."just" being the operative word.

i know one, but im not sure if he is lying haha.. aek... but i disagree with keithmoon, those tests are suppose to be done by the average student, so most probably, you might be a exceptionally high student therefore you can do it~

a bit off the topic but the government is so stupid giving more money to the PRIVATE and less to the PUBLIC, i mean the private already get like about 10 - 20k from each student every year, that's like, 50 times my fees, lol. And James Ruse may need, or other agricultural schools, may need more money than other public/selective schools.

abit on the animals subject..

other schools which offer this course are prolly underfunded rural schools..

now, given that kinda competition.. ruse guys will get amazingly better marks compared to them. thus, the scaling effect they receive is just dazzeling.
yeah, my school offers agriculture, and it's pretty well taught, we have some people who are really good at it actually, but compare my school's ranks/standards/etc to JR and i can see what you mean...they would crush us in comparison. I don't think many of our ag students work to hard, lol :p no offence to them of course.

The reason why they're good is because they have the right combination of brains and dedication.

its not the ranking of the school that counts, but the quality of the students doing the hsc. at least its supposed to be. in the end, same difference. james ruse always has the cream of the crop so they always get top marks and those marks make other smart ppl want to go there... and the cycle continues.
