Roughly, what raw marks are needed to convert these subjects to achieve a band six result?

Subjects include:

English

Thanks!

Yep, it fluctuates from year to year. Band 6 is determined by the performance of the cohort in the course, difficulty of the exam, etc.

Based on 2009 HSC

English Advanced: Probably around 85/105 for 90 scaled.
Chemistry: Probably around 82-85/100 for 90 scaled.

No idea about the rest because I didn't do them.

usually for chem and stuff it's around 80-82 for a 90 in actual hsc, that said if the exam was difficult etc... it could be lowered like 72 which it was a few years ago I believ.

Are you saying if I obtained a raw mark of around ~83 I would receive a band six for chemistry?

What do you mean 85/105? - don't you mean 100?

I'm a little confused.

45(paper 1 AOS) + 60 (paper 2 modules)= 105

also AOS is the only paper that ALL HSC candidates have in common, so they use it compare all the students doing totally different subjects.
Dunno how that actually works though.

Yes, in 2009. No guarantees that it will remain the same (for better or worse) in 2011/2012/2013 etc etc.

As funnytomato stated, English Advanced is marked out of 105, 45 for AoS and 60 for Paper 2 (modules).

In the 2010 chemistry exam, my mate got 71 as a raw mark (89 as a scaled mark). He was pretty pissed off concidering that like 1 mark more would mean that he would have gotten a band 6 lol.

Wait does that mean that it's easy to get band 6 ??

xD

80-85/100 doesn't seem that high for chem.

^how hard do they mark?
They don't try to take marks away from you, but if you don't earn them they won't give them to you.
From what my teachers have said:
Chemistry - Harsh. If you don't write it so the marker 100% knows what you're talking about they won't give you the marks.
MX1 - Harsh for circle geo proofs, they don't like abbreviations. BUT if you write an answer to a question right and cross it out but they can still read it they might give you marks for it.

This will happen provided you haven't written another answer down, you may get like 1 mark for it if you're lucky tho if you have.
