Hey guys,

What should I do?

My Advanced English teacher is being completely biased and unfair!
He's awarded me a mark which I should NOT deserve as per feedback from other teachers, who mark the HSC!!
He has even awarded more marks to students, whose essays were not as cohorent, integrated and competent as mine...

In prelim, I came 1st. However, now my rank is 5th :( (UNFAIR!!)

Have no idea what I should do!!
This assessment task is worth 25% towards the HSC assessment mark!
I got 20/25 :( Other teachers say I deserve atleast 23 if not 24!!
I'm confused :|

Calm down. Ask the Head teacher of English if you can get a remark.
What's so bad about coming 5th?

+1..
But Sir_R_Sole.. this isn't a top ranked school so difference between 5th and 1st can be massive.. i know it would have been at my school.

+1 to that.
Even between 1st and 2nd in one subject at my school had like 4-5% difference in my year.

Oops. I was under the impression that SanjoyM was at a top ranked school (I don't know why). I just checked his profile and saw that he goes to Parramatta High.
However, one thing that I don't understand is the marking system. Is 20/25 a bad mark? If that is ranked 5th, then isn't 5th still a good rank? I was under the impression that all schools marked English (internally) similarly. My overall internal (raw) mark for English was less than 80%.

1-4 got
1- 23/25
2- 22.5/25
3- 22/25
4. 21.5/25

It was actually a mark of 30, converted to a mark out of 25

It's been marked unfairly.... Just don't know what to do!!

24/30 -> 20/25 is sooo bad!!
The next few assessemnts weighting are:
15%, 15%, 15%, Half Yearly - 10% Trials - 20% :(

The fact is that I always achieve 19/20 in Modules and the 2nd highest mark is 15/20
Don't know why he marked my AOS in that manner!! Just unfair!!
Guys, help?

Ohh a speech. Not sure there's much you can do man. Sorry :(
(EXACT same thing happened to me last year)

Either way, this seriously isn't too bad as long as you ace your next couple of tests. Going by what you've said, these guys aren't too good so you could easily gain back that 2-3% and regain 1st place :)

Good luck!

The thing that is most striking is that: He said.. "your references to techniques within the speech will be marked by the way you say it"? I mean, WTF!!
That was 8 marks - I got 7
I used sophisticated techniques, whereas others used simple techniques like "simile, metaphor..."
Also, the orginisation and development of ideas - same thing! WTF!!
It's under the marking criteria for "Content", so why is it that it was marked as presentation?!!

I feel its completely unfair!
He said, "content was flawless", then why did we substract 2 marks from content!!?
I'm seriously annoyed atm. Sorry for ranting on about this!!

If it was a speech, good luck with that. Though the written component may be good, no otehr teacher has "heard" it, so how would they know how your presentation etc. was?

If you think you've been ripped, I would inquire on why I lost amrks and potentially fight it. But it'd be hard with a speech.

Honestly, 2 marks would make a LOT of difference! Atm, I'll be happy with 22/25 but not 20/25 with 5th position!!

First of all. AOS and Modules are totally different if you aware of it (Paper 1 and Paper 2).

If you are good at Modules, not necessarily you are top in the AOS. So really your statement does not justify anything, nor why you deserve higher for the AOS.

I'm planning to talk to my Extension English 2 teacher tomorrow, and the teacher who marked the other classes speeches!!

I just don't under this : "The thing that is most striking is that: He said.. "your references to techniques within the speech will be marked by the way you say it"? I mean, WTF!!

If it is content, then it should marked on the basis of the "written content"....

Sorry to hear man. But a speech you can not do much about it, unless it was video recorded or any type of filmed evidence.

So chances are you consult with your teacher or head teacher and come to a resolution. I predict you wouldn't get any mark changes.

Best solution is to work hard next coming assessment and really the mark intervals aren't that bad so far between you and first so don't get all upset about it.

This is a motivator for you and also why you should study harder! To come 1st next assessment and till the hsc!

Just ensure you top the next task and also continually maintain it!

Yes, I understand that. I was just simply stating an example.
and AOS - he himself said upon the completion of the speech, "You are going to get atleast 28, if not more!!"
and I've heard others speeches.... Hope that expalins it

I understand that, but what I do not understand is why was he marking my content based on my presentation?
Other teachers marked it differently!! It was also specifically under "Content" on the marking criteria... I have to fight for these 2-3 marks!!

What if he marks the assessment task unfairly as well? Then, I doomed right? :|
