I'm a current year 11 and I know this may be too early in the year to think about but I'm wondering what should subjects I should drop and whether I should do 10/12 units. So currently, I do maths adv/ext, economics, chem, physics and ancient history. I'm going to do ext 2 maths in year 12 as well if that makes a difference. My ranks for these subjects are top 5 so academically speaking I'm not sure

Since you are ranking pretty high in all of your subjects, dropping Ancient History would be the best option as it doesn’t scale as high as your other subjects.

I think the best thing to do now is consider subjects throughout the year and not make any major or finalised decisions just yet as a lot can change in the next two terms (unless you are struggling with the workload, which considering your ranks across all subjects, I doubt you are). Once the year finishes note your enjoyment in each course and your final rank to help guide you to a smart and informed decision. As for whether 10/11/12 units is best, personally come term 3 year 11 if I am feeling confident in the idea of specialising in 10 units I will drop a course, however, I think I am going to continue doing 12/13 units in year 12 and drop if it becomes too much or I come to dislike the year 12 course work for a particular subject.
haha ye I'll probably return for more advice later in the year
and just another question how important do you think your school rank plays in your final scores

I was unsure about school ranking importance too, but found this post that pretty much sums up it's minimal impact.

I go to a public school with quite a few past students who have achieved high 90 atars, and so I do not think school rank has a major correlation with a student’s final marks, more so hardwork and good grades.
Absolutely. Just make sure you perform well internally, i.e. get good ranks.

ye that would be the case for a normal person, but judging by their subject choices they clearly have preference towards stem subjects.

As mentioned above, choosing which subject to drop is influenced by a few factors:

- Personal opinion/experience of taking the subject
- Marks/academic performance in that subject
- Rank in that subject
- Scaling of that subject compared to other subject that the person does.

Enough. Stop derailing this thread.

If you want to discuss religion there is a way to do so without personally attacking the other person. There is also a place on the forum to discuss it.
