Hi everyone,

Just wandering, what would be a comprehensive essay plan if we were to get an essay on environment in the HSC Economics extended response?

:awesome:

Depends on the context of the question? Generally, I would probably cover:

1) Product and Factor Markets
2) Public and Private Goods - Private and Social costs/benefits
3) Environmental sustainability
4) Issues concerning the environment (resource depletion, climate change, pollution, natural reserves)
5) Effects of taking into account social costs
6) Policy Responses (Including targeting and international treaties such as Kyoto)

If the questions asks something about government policies make sure you talk about

regulations
market based polices- integrate carbon tax into it, I'm certain everyone doing environments will "mention it" so make sure you know some illuminating stats to distinguish yourself and explain it properly
talk about international organisations too.

generally you should structure your essay like below and include the regulations/market-based policies for each point
1. Climate change (Carbon tax + ETS)
2. Demand for Water (Murray Darling)
3. Biodiversity and other envrionmental concerns

In order of above, with most important first
