Most questions involve identifying the excess and limiting reagent and working out from there but not all questions need this, how do I know when to find the excess and limiting reagent?

When they give extra information e.g. in the neutralisation reaction between NaOH and HCl, if they say XXml of XXmol/L NaOH was reacted with YYml of YYmol/L of HCl, you need to check for limiting and excess reagents.

However, if they only give one piece of information e.g. 20ml of 0.01mol/L of HCl was reacted with excess NaOH (or no info about NaOH amounts), then you will not need to use limiting and excess
