You mean elect a female prime minister.

Of course Julia Gillard was elected as PM by the only body that matters - her party - the only body that has the power to elect the PM - the party that has the most seats in the House of Representatives.

Ordinary Australians do NOT elect our PM. We vote for an MP who tells us their political affiliation at the time but...they aren't tied to that affiliation. Once the election is completed the party that has the most seats in the House of Representatives elects a leader to be PM. That leader has so far been the one who lead them to the election win but... who would have been PM after the last election if the Liberals had won the most seats but Howard still lost his seat? Who would have chosen that PM - simple answer - the Liberal party - not the Australian people. The only people who voted for Mr Rudd in 2007 were the member so his electorate. His name wasn't on any other ballot paper.

Another one - imagine that Rudd had died in office or had resigned his seat - who would have elected his replacement - his party not the people of Australia.

Oh don't be naive.
Most voters haven't the slightest clue of who their local MP might be until they cast their vote. Their main thought is: Which party do I favour. Or sometimes they purely base it on which PM they consider to be half decent.

lol...who is my local MP??? is it still Sherie Burton for Kogarah council??? :shy: but who cares about the local government, the dont do shit anyway..they just spend taxpayers money on absolute crap so when election time comes and people see these "amazing" new projects happening, that party will get elected again...
the real deal is the state government...completely crappy...nothing is happening in NSW and as for the Federal Government, well thats where the real action is
it's not kevin rudd's fault that his party was scummy enough to turn against him and its not his fault that the liberal party blocked every single project that the labor government wanted to pass....our governnment is controlled by the Union and everyone knows it and this shifting of powers to the Union all started back in WW1.
but yes
Ask your average person, who's your local MP. How is he different from his opponent? Answer: Say wut?
